Here is my Zebra cat attempt with the Zebra Rubber 80 ballpoint pen. I followed along with Matt. I did trace my reference image because it was a little daunting. I’ve never used ballpoint pen to draw anything before. I am happy to say that it really behaves almost like graphite, so that helped to dissipate my initial fear. I had the little ink blobs a lot, but I’m somewhat satisfied with the outcome. This is excellent. I ended up using a loose grid for mine. When I first drew it out the head was too small and the body was too big. Hi Jane @janed So far, so good with your ballpoint cat drawing. It looks like you’re rushing the drawing of the fur on the back larger part of the cat, so it might help if you blend in some lighter shorter strokes. Hello all, I just finished my cat with drawing it by observation. I am going to do it again with a tracing and see how close my original cat looks. I’ll post both of them when I finish. I’ve used these ones before and they’re so smooth that I think I used them all up. I won’t use them to finish the cat as the pen I started with has a wider nib and the ink has a red reflection when viewed from an angle. ---

Hi Terri, Yes it’s a different pen. The Rubber 80 is excessively priced on Amazon, almost €70 (about US$73) including shipping for 10 pens. I can see the list price in Japan is about €6, so it’s a hard pass. I’ll make do with the other pen until I can source them at a better price. ---

I learned a lot and know my next cat will be better, I got rushy and took some breaks- that helped. I did find a rhythm and was getting the hang of it by the end. I love love love ink and had been away too long! Zebra Rubber 80 is a hit. ---
