Hello Nan, I am enjoying my 7 day peek and plan to continue the journey. I am a “very beginner” in art, photography has been my “thing” for many years, but the past weeks just playing with watercolours and charcoal and actually finding Matts you tub videos inspired me to look on line for some really good help, and I believe I have found it on this site. I live In England but the world is very small when it comes to on line learning I have discovered. I am retired and kept busy with lots of things I enjoy.Thank you for your message kindest regards
Hello Patricia… Welcome aboard. My name is Patricia as well, a.k.a. Sterlingsiam. So, to avoid confusion, when I contribute I will sign with my initial Patricia P. or with Sterlingsiam.
Hello all. I’m Joanne and am finally deciding to set some time aside to do some art work. I had aspired in my earlier years to get an art degree, but decided to go another career path (computers). So here I am again. I’ve really only drawn occasionally, but always enjoyed it. Looking forward to trying different mediums and have been perusing what is available. Matt has put together an impressive collection and site. Looking forward to spend what time I can. I was planning on starting in pastels, but found the current ‘live’ feature involving peacock an colored pencils, so that has drawn me in (no pun intended…). Look forward to meeting some folks and learning lots!
Welcome Joanne @jjames25 You will find the community here at TVI is friendly, supportive, and if you ask for feedback on your art it will be given in that same friendly, supportive manner.

Welcome Joanne! I have a similar career background: wanted to do art, ended up doing science, and ultimately landed up in IT. Now becoming an artist! Looking forward to seeing your work.
Nan.
Hi Joanne
Hope you enjoy it on here as much as I do. Everyone is very supportive. I used to draw a little, mainly for my kiddies, many years ago. Always had it in my mind that I would love to do art work. Now thanks to more time and this website I’m hooked. Glad you found TVI. Look forward to seeing your work and hearing more about your experiences and progress. Welcome.
Hello Joanne @jjames25 Thank you. In answer to your question, I did not have an art background. I joined TVI about 2 years ago, I didn’t know anything about drawing, shading, line quality, VALUE, etc. I have learned much from Matt & Ashley but the input from the community has been invaluable.

So very glad to have you joining us here at the forum. We are a friendly and supportive group, so feel free to share your art (either things you are working on, or the finished piece). If you have questions we do our best to answer them. Many of us have become close friends.
I suggest that all new (and long term) members set aside a half hour every week to watch the Members Minute. We all learn a lot from these critiques. And if you have time, watch some of the older ones too.
Well, you certainly like to take on challenges! saw this picture of yours: [Most Recent Drawing or Painting - #1323 by robichon]. I’m not sure I’m that adventurous - or should I say, patient? You are certainly doing well!
Hello everyone. I’ve always wanted to learn how to draw and paint. I’ve actually created a few pieces over the years. I’ve just never really put forth an effort to keep drawing. The only way to ever improve at something is to keep at it and make time for it. Which is why I’m here. I really want to commit to it. I see a lot of great art out there when I go to a local arts and crafts festival. I love graphite, colored pencil, pastels, and oil painting. I also love it when artists use mixed media to create their works. I love portraits, animals, and landscapes and would love to learn how to create all of those. I just found an older television show on Amazon Prime called “National Portrait Artist of the Year” and just finished watching season 1 episode 1. It’s a competition for portrait artists. Prime has 11 seasons of the show. Anyway, anytime I watch something like that I really think about how I would love to learn how to do that. So I’ve decided to take the next step and sign up at The Virtual Instructor. I thought I would go ahead and share one of my pieces of a dog I used to have. We lost her to age and health complications last year. Art is great because it can leave you with something personal when you do have those losses of someone or a beloved pet. Anyway, here she is. It was drawn using pastels. It’s good to be here and I can’t wait to learn something new.
I am convinced that you will find everything here what you are looking for. Did you see the live lesson we do have each week? For April and May, they will be on thursday, as Matt had to postpone “our” wednesday. Since you listed colored pencils, you might want to join. We are currently drawing a colorful pea cock with colored pencils.
Most likely, Terri @robichon will give you all informations for a great start. We all are here for learning, supporting or advising.
What’s been the name of your beloved little dog? She looks beautiful and very cute. I always lived with pets myself and do have an assistance dog.
Welcome to the Forum at The Virtual Instructor. Matt is a great teacher and person. You will learn a lot here. And please keep on sharing your artwork with us here.
