Wow! Sys, you did super well. How did you manage to get an even blue sky without accidently having the water color run into the bird?

Well, Buddy, I took your advice! I bought some Schminke Rubbelknepp (maskingfluid) and covered the whole bird. It worked like a charm. Then worked the background. And once happy with that, I removed the masking fluid, and did the bird with watercolour and watercolour pencils.

Congratulations @siffermus for having this wonderful drawing chosen for this week’s Members Minute.

Pretty much done except for the foreground which is sketched up and started inking…

@Meme5 It’s not an ideograph… that’s the autocorrector speaking :joy: Isograph, by Rotring.

Thanks! - I’ve been so buissy I haven’t even had time to check. I will now.

So, I’m done spamming this thread with progress images of my oil-based ink pen church project. I’m calling it finished because every time I look at it I find a new ‘thing’ that needs to be corrected or improved. This work was a real challenge as those of you who tackled it are intimately aware, but I’m glad I did it. It’s been a great learning experience…

I looks really nice, I think you did a great job with the piece. Was the drawing done on the hot press on Matt’s verion?

Same paper, same Zebra oil ink pen. The paper works well with the ink.

James @Zman I kept scrolling down the page to see your work of the reference photo and came to the realization that I was looking at your work. Wonderful

Thank you, Jim, for your kind thought!

Found this scene in Washington State Park in Portland, Oregon, on a recent visit. Thought I would try it in oil pastels. The Park is so beautiful with amazing Japanese and Rose gardens, walking trails, and lush forest throughout.

Dave, so nicely done! Wonderful control of the details and proportion.

This one is on drafting film. I am not too familiar with using drafting film, so I combined this excercise in fluffy fur with a bit of training on the film.

I’ve been messing around with watercolor so I did a landscape from Matt’s line and wash course and a hummingbird from my own reference.

I balanced some tones and added some contrast in the willows and the trees on the right side and am finally ‘officially’ done with the church ball point oil pen ink piece. It’s amazing how many things I find once a piece of work is complete that are errors, whether perspective, highlights, or whatever, but I still look at this work as ‘worth the effort’ in hours and technique practice. It was a labor of love for me. It’s time to start something new

Hi Lucas @MTBartist

I’m a sucker for anything watercolor. Nice job. One comment: it looks like you are really competing with the texture of the watercolor paper on the hummingbird painting. Not sure if you used rough or cold press. If you decide to continue playing with watercolors you might want to give Hot Press watercolor paper a try. It is my favorite because of the smooth surface.

What a calming affect this one has on me Sys! I love looking at the snow on these old buildings and know they are withstanding the age of time!
