Thanks so much for your detailed response. Learning and getting information from each other is so helpful. The markers still aren’t exciting me right now. (Watch and I’ll probably change my impression of them a year from now.).

Hello all, 🙂
After my painting of tomatoes, I decided to go for avocado as well, as it is a yummy combination 😃
As I have only 2 colors of posca markers used in the lesson, I decided to try it with gouache instead. I used grey paper as in the lesson, but this paper is quite thin so I tried to avoid water as much as possible (meaning completely 😅 ). Well, I must say it was a bit harder to manipulate the paint, and I am not sure how the color pencils will act, but lets try. I am going to use polychromos color pencils.

Hi Lucy.
So far, so good. Just keep going and post again how it turns out.
I tried this lesson too, but had the same problem of not having the posca colors. Your decision to go with gouache was a good option. I ended up going with acrylic paint and couldn’t put colored pencil on top of it. But I still liked my end result.

Great start! This course will be the next one on my list, as I just got my rand new set of Luminance colored pencils to try out.
I love the Polychromos myself, but they aren’t as vibrant on gray paper as I would like them to be. Just keep in mind that Polychromos are harder than Prismacolors, so it might be a challenge color with them over gouache. If you have any wax-based colored pencils, I would suggest using them instead for thus project.
Anyhow, I am curious how your avocados turn out in the end.

Hello all 🙂
So the avocado is done. Well… 😃 it was a bit challenging.
Terri, I was first thinking about using acrylic, but luckily I saw your painting before I started so I knew I would not be able to apply pencils. That’s why I went for gouache.
What did I learn? That it was not impossible to apply colored pencils but it was quite hard. The gouache got pretty hard (without water), I felt like I am scratching some plastic paint. It was good learning process, plus I loved to put this crazy color of green and yellow down at the beginning 😃
Buddy, yes, polychromos are completely different. As well, I couldn’t apply light color on top of the dark, as you can do with Prismacolor. I remembered that when trying to force my white pencil to cooperate 😅
Here is my final drawing. Happy that it looks like an avocado! 🥑 ☺

Thanks for sharing your yummie avocados with us and your artistic experiences doing them. Lol - had a great laugh about your quarrel withthe white Polychromos pencil. I am so sorry to have forgotten to mention that with these pencils, it’s impossible to decently use lighter colors over dark.

Oh the excitement! The final module has been released. I made a start today. 3rd berry went a little dark and the edges bled a bit. I’ve re-evaluate tomorrow before continuing with the pencils.

I really loved this technique and I think I’ll use it again in the future.
Overall great course. I want to revisit the Strawberries, I wasn’t happy with my results when I followed along.
