Can I Use Sharpies In Place of Prismacolor Markers?

Hi Friends,
I wanted to try doing the drink with ice cubes in the tutorial “How To Draw With Markers And Colored Pencils” but I don’t have Prismacolor Markers. I have read online that Sharpies are alcohol-based, to be honest, I don’t know much about markers. I have lots of Sharpies and was wondering if they would be suitable for this drawing?

I tried using Sharpies over Prismacolor Premier pencils before, and they seemed to repel, sort of, over the waxy pencil application. I don’t know if it’s the Sharpie itself, the paper I used, or maybe because I used a colourless blender…again, I will say I’m quite new at this!

If anyone has advice on this, please let me know and thanks!!

I don’t know about sharpies on top of colored pencil, but I’m sure it would work underneath. It wouldn’t hurt to try.

Thanks Ginny, I’m going to give it a try, I have nothing to lose!

Yes you can sharpie markers as well. We are all learning from Matt, so don’t worry about being new at any form of art or medium. Experimentation is the best way to find out the answer. I think watercolor paper is best to use for this though.
