I watched the video on line-and-wash portraiture. I’m not ready for that yet, but I was very intrigued by the technique of putting the reference image onto the paper, so I tried it with a picture of Cary Grant. I had drawn this a while back using a grid, and it was a good learning experience, but I really need to work on accuracy around the eyes. This technique, closer to tracing, worked much better for me. I decided not to try to put down the whole range of tones, especially since the ref is very high contrast and has lots of solid black. So I consider this very much an unfinished exercise, but I’m happy with it. It’s obviously Cary Grant!
Very ell done. Love it.
Minimalistic, yet beautifully done.
