Had fun doing the getting sketchy project tonight, I put it into grey scale and was blown away at how well those odd colors came together. Who else participated? I’d love to see more!
This is amazing! I truly enjoyed this lesson and drawing so much. I can’t wait to attack it with my granddaughter tomorrow. I’ll post our results here.
Did you have Posca Markers? We gave our granddaughter hers for Christmas, so I have to borrow hers. I don’t think I’ll invest in them for myself, unless I just fall in love with them. LOL!
Brenda
@LadyLunaMarr That turned out beautifully!
Here’s my attempt working digitally:
And here is a timelapse of the process.
These are both amazing! I don’t have Posca markers but tried with my TomBow on grey paper last night. I thought my purple too dark so tried it again on white marker paper. Had fun trying this. What a great lesson on value!
I never even thought to do it digitally! I think the tombow markers worked well, might try it again with those on marker paper. My husband bought me a big pack of posca pens for Mother’s Day last year, he was happy to hear I finally used them almost a year later
I love this. Great job.
June, they both look great, but that second one is really well-done! I hope to have one to share this afternoon.

My four-value octopus in Posca Markers. It was fun! We didn’t have the coral pink, but I love this bright pink that we had. And it appears I managed the four values.
Brenda
wow - that turned out great
Wow! all of these turned out great! One day when I feel I have some energy to pull out the different supplies I plan on doing a Getting Sketchy marathon. I hope it is before I have 10 lessons at once - ha ha!
Teri
It was really fun to do. I still want to do the eraser face, but I’m having problems getting my eraser dots to look right. I’m going to get a stamp pad and try one more time.
Teri, a gettin sketchy marathon would take me forever. It take me so much longer than 45 minutes to do one episode! I look forward to seeing your pieces when you get to do them.
Brenda
Brenda,
So true! It will be quite a long marathon, but then, that is what a marathon is, right?
You did a great job on this octopus experience!
Teri
So awesome!!! I love octopi and this is absolutely adorable!!!
All awesome octopuses @LadyLunaMarr , @Migster ( digital, nice!), @junenez , & @Brenda !
Thank you, MustardSeedLife!

Hello everyone,
I do not like mine at all. I do not have the Posca Markers either so used a set of Blick Illustrator Markers I purchased a while back that I have not tried yet so I was running blind. I was pleased with how they worked on the Strathmore grey paper since they are alcohol based but did not like my rendering at all.
I will probably try again but not as getting sketchy, just for myself. I will most likely do it in ink and see how it turns out or at least use a micron black pen for the line as the pen I have are all thicker marks not like the one Matt used.
I do believe that I will humble myself here and present my attempt in the 45 minutes allotted time using a different medium, so here it goes.
Teri
I think the octopus looks fantastic @TLP ! The shape is nice and flowy, and the purple and yellow contrast nicely!
Thank you @MustardSeedLife.
