Hi everyone my name is Larry I’m new to the site and the forum. I’ve only been drawing for about a year, and found a new love. I’m not a computer and not sure how to show my art, hoping for some help. Thanks
Hi, I’m Gail
I have always loved creating, drawing, painting…anything to do with Art from as long as I remember, then I feel in love with a Greek man and live on a Greek island…I had a whole lot of other challenges then…!!! I didn’t draw for a good 25 years…but for the last 3 years I have been trying to reconnect with my first Love…and it’s been hard! Finding inspiration, but mainly ‘letting myself’ just play…instead of feeling guilt or the pull of everyday chores and responsibilities. …good news is, it gets easier…and doors open in your head and in your world around you, when you stay focused on your passion. I’m loving this site and all the friendly help. Thanks for creating it!
Hi everyone,
beeing a member of TVI since a couple of months, I would now like to dive into the forum as well.
Due to an accident, I am in early retirement but have been working as an HR manager for US companies before. I understand learning as an ongoing challenge in life.
My interests are drawing, literature, music, kabarett and movies along with everything you can do in nature. Having spent my whole life with horses, I could manage to train my own assistant dog, which is just a lovley little girl and a family member.
Since I am german, I live 6 hours ahead of the east coast, so just now, you might still have wednesday, while I am living on thursday already.
Friends call me “Buddy”, though I know, this name usually refers to a male.
I hope to get in touch with more artists, share critiques, ideas or what’s new on the market.
Looking forward to you, I wish you a good night and keep away from the virus.
Buddy
Hi Buddy,
Welcome to the Forum. I’m also 6 hours behind you, though I live on the west coast of South America.
Cheers,
Mike Walker
I am a watercolor artist, tasked with teaching my niece “art” over zoom. She is 11 years old, part of a performing arts family and writes and illustrates her own stories for fun. I have never taught “art”, nor taught kids so I’m struggling here. I don’t think trying to teach watercolor art over zoom will work so I’m looking for ideas. We’ve had three lessons so far and we’ve talked about and done perspective, shading and values.
I am new to this community. What is the best way for me to get started with The Virtual Instructor classes for my eager to learn niece? Any recommendations? I need to keep it fun and creative.
Hi Anne,
Welcome to the forum. Have you had a look at the lesson plans that Matt has produced? You can find them in the Lesson drop-down menu.
Cheers,
Mike Walker
Hi Mike,
thanks for you kind welcome. And “Good Morning” to Peru.
Buddy
Good day! I’m retired long ago, but was an art major in college. I had a problem valuing my own work, so I drifted away from art into writing. Ten years ago, I found an outstanding pottery teacher and discovered my muse. During the time of taking cover from Covid, I found The Virtual Instructor - after a few lessons and videos, I discovered confidence in my 2D skills - and now I’m doing work that just makes me smile. I began by resurrecting water color pencils - then went on to experiment with graphite, ink, watercolors. Between the clay and the 2D, all I do now is art, pretty much. Gotta thank Matt for that!
Hello all from Mollie. I am thrilled to be a new member! Having taken a few courses from Matt over the years as well as learning and enjoying from Matt and Ashleys live lessons on youtube I know what a marvelous learning experience this will be. I’ve been drawing over a good many years now; pastel and charcoal initially and presently enjoy working in pencil, color pencil, and water-based crayons. Looking forward to my new membership!
Hi all! I’m Lonnie and living in California. Not much of a techy so bear with me (prob haven’t posted pics correctly and introduced myself 2 days ago but…?). Started w VI 2019 after my horse passed and drew this picture of him and realized that maybe I could draw…havent stopped since as love it…all art! Did a bluejay with Matt and this kingfisher and recently, after being on different sites with colored pencil (mostly animals) did his graphite white rose. Love all that he does and look forward to seeing everyone’s posts on here. Thank you!

HHHHEEEEE! Love it - I’m got so many art supplies and not driving anymore, I don’t have to stop talking. Some people wish I’d stop talking. Maybe I will, but you can’t tell . Just need to keep me off the Internet and art stores.
Lenora.
I am new to art. For a long Time I’ve wanted to emulate comic art. The specific kinds are modern comic, 90s, vintage and manga. But I don’t know where to begin. I don’t know how to draw complex figures. Where do I begin

Hi, my name is Erika and I am from South Africa. I just love art and creative things and I became a member of Virtual Instructor just recently during April 2021 after watching some of Matt’s videos on YouTube. I am a beginner artist and want to explore all the mediums before deciding what I like most. I started with The Secrets to Drawing and I am almost finished with it and I have already learned so much and can’t wait to go on to my next course - which will also be about drawing with Graphite because I have not yet mastered all those techniques. I am so encouraged by learning from Matt that drawing is a skill because I also thought it is a talent and I will not be able to do it. I enjoy it so much and are looking forward to my journey with all of you.
Hello everybody, I’m Lolita from the Netherlands and I used to draw a lot with rötring pens in my younger days. I went to an Graphics art school for 4 years where I mostly worked with Rötring and ruler.
After that I worked at a printing company, creating logo’s and other vectors and preparing work to be printed. After that I lost interest in drawing.
Now almost 35 years later I bought myself a box of colour pencil and I’m trying to pick up drawing again, but this is new for me too. I was never much of an illustrator.
I’m looking forward to learn new things and ended up here because I really like Matt’s work and explaining in video’s I saw on You Tube!
Hi!
You have such skills already: that is very exciting. You will love Matt’s classes - although Nederlanders have a bit of a struggle with his live lessons at two in the morning
There is no way for you to lose interest in art again - Matt coaches you through every medium and aspect of art.
Thank you Margaret. I do think I’m asleep at 2 in the morning…
But I’ll start with the other lessons and I’ll have to dig into my old school stuff
'cause there should be a really nice box of watercolour paint and pencils. I like the pen/watercolour lessons as well, so there’s plenty enough to do for me.
