I am doing a self imposed 30 day pastel challenge, here is my drawing from a getting sketchy class. I am on day 5…
This is day 6 of my 30 day pastel challenge. This is from an old getting sketchy class, where we only had 30 minutes. I pIcked up a cheap set of pastels for only 9 dollars, this was fun but messy!
Both of these are great. Very well done.
Day 9 and 10, so not all drawings work out! but i learn something from each one. I was not happy with day 8 (wolf) and I wasn’t going to share it. Then I decided part of this challenge is shareing, maybe once I do my own original art I will submit it for critique. I plan to do most of the getting sketchy pastel drawings then I will move on to tvi pastel classes. If any one wants to join me in this 30 day pastel challenge just jump in!
Hi Teresa @Uxawn99 (from another Teresa, aka Terri)
You are just doing great and I LOVE the 30-day committment.
Terri
Hello Teresa,
your off to great start. I am glad to see all of your pastel artwork. I am doing a similar self imposed challenge. To do 1 hour graphite drawings for one hour. Most of the time I take more than one hour so I go with one hour a day and continue working it the next day.
A getting sketchy marathin sounds fun.
Keep posting!
Teri (Artsy)
The graphite challenge sounds great! last year I did a 30 day drawing challenge using graphite and charcoal. It is really rewarding setting a goal. I lost my drawing mojo for several years. So the goal was to draw something every day for 30 days. Even if it was some thing basic. I did a few getting sketchy classes as well. It was very worth while.
Day 12 and 13, both turned out not as I expected especially the path. I used white paper and just ended up doing my own thing
i struggled with all the layers in the boat, but I think i am happy with the drawings.
So, I think i have finished with getting sketchy. As I don’t like cats and birds. I started the landscape course on tvi. Here are my first 2 attempts
Is this also pastel? Really nice and you get the feeling of being there! love it !
Therese
Yes it is! I am half way through my challenge!
I have been a bit absent… but the challenge continues.. Day 15 to 25. The getting sketchy class with the creek went a bit off track as my proportions were off so I just threw in a bunch of grass… reverting to what is easy
every drawing is a learning opportunity! I did another landscape from the course, that one turned out like a colouring book page
and the butterfly and flower live class that took several days to complete. Again I struggled with proportions and the tubules in the flower so I went a bit free range on that one.

Hi Teresa @Uxawn99
Keep working at it because you need to get comfortable with the media and practice is important. I also find that many pieces of art can be greatly improved just by working on them slowly for a longer period of time.

You are so inspiring. Maybe I will post some of my graphite drawings for feedback.
I miss a day here and there but am taking it slower now and taking 1 - 2 days on a sketch/drawing.
I look forward to seeing what is next!!
Artsy (Another Teri)
I’d love to see them. I only have a few days left of this challenge. It has been good learning with this media, and producing something ‘not bad’ every few days! I splurged and got some panpastels and some better pastel pencils, they really are lovley to use.
I am thinking of doing charcoal or graphite challenge next ior maybe something with water colour? Or markers plus pencils…
Here is day 26 I used pan pastels and carbothelo pencils on pastel matt. I followed a you tube tutorial. But went a bit 'free range ’ as usual ![]()
Teresa,
I just posted some of my graphite/charcoal on black paper. There are a few courses in Graphite on the membership.
25 days to improve your drawing (may not be exact title)
Portrait drawing the right way
Realistic drawing
Also many graphite/charcoal live lessons.
I do hope you join me if you decide to do graphite.
See you around, Artsy
