A painting I just finished 😃

I’ve been working on this ink and watercolor piece from Matt’s course for a couple of months off and on. It’s hard getting the loose watercolor feel that Matt puts on his painting because… We’ll, I’m me, I suppose

Wow, it is really good and very well done! I can totally relate to difficulties with loose painting! Seems like I have a hard time trying those lessons. A lot of times I leave them half finished . :face_with_monocle: Thank you for posting and inspiring me to try.

I also start art projects and let them languish, partly finished. I find that just setting a time, making a good cup of coffee and digging in again reminds me how much I love the process of art. Just need to keep reminding yourself by doing… Aaand I’m a procrastinator and perfectionist, attributes that work together to make it challenging to continue with creative works…

Hi @DaveK

I love your finished artwork. I also always have multiple pieces of unfinished artwork sitting and waiting for me. Eventually most of them get finished.

This is beautiful! I think you have made a beautiful painting, and the ink compliments it perfectly. I also think your level of looseness/detail is great. Everyone is different on that spectrum and I am still trying to find my groove with that in watercolor. Well done!

Hello @DaveK

You did a wonderful jub on this.

I have so many unfinished projects all over my apartment. I’m like a bunny hopping around from one to the other. Really nice job!

@maki it’s been awhile, but you sent me a link to visualize art in frame and matte options. I used paint.net to create this combination based on some research into color combinations of mattes which is helpful, but can’t find the thread that you shared the information with links to the frame site? Also, thoughts on this color combination would be appreciated. (colored mattes and a black frame)

@maki here is a modified framing concept increasing the width some while keeping the height of the frame the same… also superimposed on the wall near where it will live…

@maki I do want your thoughts as they are always appreciated, however I did find the framing site on another thread :+1:t2:

Hello Dave, thank you for your message!

I do love your framing choice!

They look so natural with your lovely painting, which is very important as the very basic principle for choosing the right frame & mat is that the frame & mat must not jeopardize your artwork.

Your framing idea got me curious to see how I would frame this particular painting so I tried the simulator for myself.

Here are the outcomes:

I first followed your choice of the mat colour and tried some different types of frames.

And then, as I personally love the combination of a dark blue mat and a slightly decorated silver frame for my own drawings, so I tried it for your work too.

Hope you like them! :grinning: :cat2: :four_leaf_clover:

@maki, (along with everyone else in this community), I love hearing from you  Thanks for the positive and helpful feedback. So, a couple of things; firstly, I like doing the matte with all color without the white part next to the picture since it focuses the attention on the art and I looked at a matte leaning toward yellow color vs the more green and think the green ties the blues/green/yellow together better, secondly, I like the first simple almost woven frame look the best as it is soft and seems to blend well with the art style. Here’s what it may look like on my wall:
