Digitizing sketches and enhance

I would like to draw characters for my game, and scan them into GIMP. I’m looking for tutorials on how to enhance the digitized sketches.

Under the “Courses” section, there is a basic lesson on photoshop. You can get a subscription to Photoshop for a monthly fee of something like $10 on the Adobe website.
