Gettin’ sketchy on my own. Blah

Tried some quick sketches on my little sketchbook. The chair took me about twenty minutes. Most of them used on the ellipse from the chair’s base. I’m afraid I’m too picky for quick sketching. I couldn’t help myself so I blended the water ripples drawing then erased the highlights. Didn’t like the outcomes but I’m trying to sketch. Also made another eye the other day.

Hi Sonia. Sketching is a perfect approach for a lot of people, but personally I get more satisfaction working on complex projects with a goal of maybe framing them. I really like refining the details.

Terri,
You said it exactly how I feel!

Hello Sonia @Meme5 , Great sketches. I know the feeling. My drawing today, in my Sketchbook, was supposed to be a texture study. Turned into 5 hour, pen and ink drawing. When thinking of something to draw, I literally almost drew the water drop, with water ripples.

Well, darn it maybe next time try the water ripple, it would’ve been crazy’! I have so many half started things because my squirrel brain gets so excited about everything. I started looking for pictures and lessons to do an oil or watercolor ink and wash for painting (small scale). I have no idea how I ended up with a ripple.
I’m trying to find something special so I can take my time with oil or WC to use the hot pressed WC paper that @robichon very kindly sent me. I just don’t want tomatoes haha.
Well, I found a new lesson on colored pencil plus that I’m doing next. Just by looking at the lesson pic I thought the strawberries were WC pencils but it’s markers and pencils. I’m still going to do it, while searching for a non tomatoes reference picture for my special paper.

You all might’ve already seen this lesson. Just sharing…

Hello Sonia @Meme5 , I chose against the ripple just because I didn’t deel like graphite yesterday. I definitively need to jump into the colored pencil plus lessons.

I keep meaning to start a sketch book. I liked your sketches. Starting a travel journal has alway a been a dream of mine but I get caught up in that my sketches are “too sketchy”. But maybe this year will be the year!

I have found I like a time limit so I stop obsessing. I do have pieces I spend more time on but like the freedom of letting it just be good enough.

Thanks for sharing!

Excellent job. Very well done.

I love the ripples and droplets. I find it very difficult to sketch although I know I should do it more often. I always end up wanting the sketch to be “nicer”.

@sterlingsiam
I can relate totally. Sketching is enjoyable and good way to practice drawing, but end result is not satisfying to me.
