I am an interior design student looking to grow and improve my skills to communicate and have a better presentation of hand-drawn designs. Finding this art community has been a blessing. I look forward to being inspired by the growth of others. Additionally, I hope to learn to have a solid foundation in drawing by using different kinds of media.
Thanks Teri, Brenda, Janar, Kimberlin.
I have done a bunch of Matt’s lessons. I am not a very artistic person. But Matt makes it simple that anyone can follow. This king fisher was my first. Blue Jay next and then the humming bird. Didn’t think I will stick around this long. I am still here and enjoying. Thanks for the support.
Hi Mike. Welcome to The Virtual Instructor, and the community. If pencil drawing is a focus for you, also consider charcoal. The thing I like about charcoal is that it’s easier to obtain those really dark values with charcoal, as opposed to graphite. But really - anything involving ART is so satisfying. Enjoy your journey here and share your work. We’re a very friendly group.
Hi Kim. I was an interior design student myself - but that was about 5 decades ago. Now I’m old and retired. No kidding. The key to improving your skills is practice, and having good instruction along the way is a definite plus. You can get both of those things here. I suggest you put the Member’s Minute (the weekly critique) on your list of things to watch. There is a new one every week and they last less than a half hour. You will LEARN SO MUCH just watching these. Welcome and have fun.
Hi Akunn - WELCOME to The Virtual Instructor and thanks for sharing what you’ve been working on. I love birds, especially the king fisher that you’ve drawn. Keep them coming.
Welcome @Akunn ! Your bird is beautiful! All the shades of blue are so pretty, and the flow of the texture is awesome! Can’t wait to see more of what you create! Jesus loves you!!!
@J_kimberlin , hello there! That’s so cool! What kind of media are you interested in? Also “Stay Creative” is a very awesome signature closing! Jesus loves you!!!
hi everybody my name is ruth and i have been painting for a few years but have not been keeping up with formal training - i mostly do watercolors but i like all kinds of arts and crafts
I’m Jan, currently living in France. Originally found Mats YouTube channel. Was so impressed, that I signed up for the year.
Currently working through all the pencil, charcoal and drawing courses, so I can learn the basics. I like the mix of ebooks and videos, as I learn best with both.
Was always told I couldn’t draw and was never encouraged to do so. But guess what ? I can now.
Welcome to the VI. I found Matts website the same way, on YouTube. Joining is the best thing I have done to improve my artwork and between the forum and Matts main site I have made a lot of progress and friends.
You have found a fun and friendly place where you can feel safe sharing artwork and interacting with other members.
Hello Jan (I like you Quatre_Bougie handle). I know what you mean. Personally, I always thought I couldn’t draw worth beans until I decided I needed something for retirement. And, yes, I too can draw and more.
Patricia (from Canada)
Hi, I’m Alan Mattinson, I enjoy drawing, graphite, coloured pencils, charcoal etc. I tend to pick and choose rather than go through the whole course from beginning to end. I have completed Phil’s Draw Awesome course and discovered that it’s great to look at other people’s work and let them comment on mine.
