Introduction to me!

Hello,

My name is Brooke. I am a 28yr old mom of 2. I have always had a passion for art and recently had more time to get back into it. I have also decided to go back to school and get my art teaching degree. I have always liked working with colored pencil, graphite, and acrylic paints. Recently tried charcoal and oil Paints. I am excited I found this community to get some tips while I get back into my groove. Here is some of my work I have recently been working on.

Hi @BrookeF2016

A warm welcome to the forum here at the virtual instructor. You’re off to a great start with this drawing. Looks like you’re using colored pencils. My advice is to be sure to use a lot of layers and pay close attention to using a broad range of VALUES, with really dark darks, light lights and a nice range of mid-tones.

If you are a member of the Virtual Instructor I highly recommend watching the Members Minute. A new critique of member artwork is posted weekly and it takes about a half hour to watch. Matt talks about composition, value, use of the materials, direction of the lighting, etc. It’s a great place to learn for people of all skill levels.

Hello Brooke,

Welcome to the Virtual Instructor forum. You will find artists at all levels of expertise from beginners as well as professionals.

I am not sure you are a member but the Virtual Instructor membership is full of everything anyone could want. From Graphite to digital and everything in between. Matt and his friend Ashley are excellent teachers . I have learned so much and see my artwork improving. The live classes and courses are great. The live classes you can ask Matt or Ashley questions in real time through the chat. Also there are weekly critiques that go over the elements of art, composition, value, use of materials etc. this is one of my favorite parts and and it alone is worth the price of the membership, if you are not already a member.

Your artwork posted here is really nice. It looks like your memory for art have come back nicely. i do hope you will share more of your art here. You will find everyone is friendly. and helpful. I don’t get on here as much as I like but do hope to see more of your artwork and progress. Also how your endeavors in a teaching degree in Art.

Again welcome to the Virtual Instructor forum.
