Oil painting course - clouds

When mixing a very light blue, is it best to start with white and add a little blue or start with blue and add white? It just seemed like I could not get a light enough blue.

I tried to paint clouds on the ceiling of my son’s room. Got about 1/3rd of the way and gave up. I was attempting to paint light blue and white clouds working to dark storm clouds. I started in the dark corner and it still looked like what I wanted it to, so not painting over it.

I cannot imagine painting the roof of the Sistene Chapel. Just looking up from a step-stool was difficult and I did not need to fall again. Maybe I should have used scaffolding to lay back on. But, I left it as is. It gives a dark blue pop, on the paneled walls, like I am using in remodeling my house. Don’t want to ask husband to paint it white again.

It was like painting the underside of a porch a light sky blue so that wrens won’t build nests there. :star_struck: :star_struck: :star_struck:
