Paddington - pastel adventure

Hello friends!
I has been a while since I have posted anything. Here are my latest adventures in pastel. Paddington was quite a challenge and, although I am fairly happy with the (almost) end result alhough I feel that it still needs some tweaking. I won’t be sending this one for critique since it was done during a pastel class at a local art school.

This was done on Uart 400. Background first, fixed with alcohol, then the body of the bear which was sprayed with fixative to be able to add the final step (the fur).

I used a variety of pastels : Faber-Castell minis, Mungyo, Gallery, Rembrandt, Blockx and Unison. Black pastel pencil (Carbothello) for the eyes, nose and mouth.

I had fun doing this one! Here is the progression to date. Still needs work on the forehead, and a little bit of work on the shadows. The second photo does not represent the actual colours, I am not sure why.

Patricia,

Yes it has been a while, nice to see you around with this wonderful pastel portrait.

My you have done a fantastic job. Your handling of pastels is really good. I wish it was not from a class so Matt could critique it.

I do look forward to see the finished piece, of course after you finish tweaking it. He is so adorable.

Thank you for sharing with us your artwork.

Teri.

Patricia @sterlingsiam,

What a delightful piece of art! I love the sweet mood of the background. The little shaggy Paddington stuffed animal is so precious with its fur texture! Made me smile big
