Does any one use projectors to enlarge a picture so you can make it on to a canvas for tracing before painting ? If so would like to hear some feedback on the ones you use . Thank you Jan .
Hi
I have one of them Pico Genie ones - I set it up and found it utterly useless, so I basically wasted a lot of money, as they are very expensive. They do have many smart features, yes. You have to counter in the distance between the projector and the surface you are drawing on. I found that for a 12x16 inches surface, the distance between the paper and the projector is so small that there is not enough room for me to do the trace. I then tried it for a 23,4x16,5 inches drawing, which gave me enough space to draw, but the picture was so pixelated, that I couldn’t make out any of the details. I put it in storeage and just use the grid method and if I need to I use Derwents scale divider to speed things up a bit, or I tape several pieces of graphite tracing paper togheter. Mind you, I haven’t tried it with a high resolution image. I expect it would work better with high resolution images. But as I work with references from the free web pages, I then also mostly work with low resolution images.
