Maki,
I was just getting ready to ask you if the show has started. Is it all month? I know you’;; get a great response.

Hi Lenet, thank you so much for your kind words!
Hi Teri, thank you so much for your kind comment!
Maki, I am a crazy cat person and all your cats are so unique. I feel like you’ve brought them alive and that I’ve known them throughout my life. Best of luck in the show!.
Everyone of these are great! Excellent job!
Hello Peter, thank you so much for your very kind words!
Hello Linda, thank you so much for your lovely comment. Cats are the best!
I visited the show venue yesterday and heard something quite funny.
The café owner told me that a customer insisted buying this drawing.
As a crazy black-cats person, I love this piece so much that I was going to keep it as a not-for-sale item.
But the café owner tried to persuade me to decide to sell it saying that the particular customer was a senior gentleman who would not have so much time left to live.
I didn’t know exactly what she meant( age? disease?), but I just could not help but wonder what kind of “senior gentleman” he would be, seriously wanting such a hilarious drawing of black cats, which I think full of silliness.
While I was drawing this piece, I kept giggling most of the time, thinking something really absurd like “how can you guys be soooooo black?”, ”no wonder people call you void. ”, “stop showing such an innocent face while being so black.”
I suspect that the serious senior gentleman shares the same kind of feelings towards black cats. Then that is really funny and happy for me to know. So I decided to sell the drawing to the customer, who could be a secret fellow member of the black-cats lovers alliance.
The show will continue until the end of April and I look forward to having some more funny happenings like this.
Hi Maki -
I love this story and the drawing. When I have had things on exhibit at the county fair, I make a lengthy appearance documenting the results for all my entries and observing items submitted by others. Often, I will overhear people talking about one or many of my items. Once a woman went to the staff in the creative arts building insisting that one of my ink paintings (of the Mount Rushmore National Memorial) was labeled incorrectly and not in the right place. She proclaimed that it was a “photograph” and should be moved. These things always make me smile.
Wishing you well with the rest of your show.

Hello @Maki , that is really an amusing story. You never know when or why something that we do, no matter how great or trivial it may be to us, will have a totally different effect on someone else. In any case, congratulations on the sale.
Lenet
Thank you so much for your kind words, Terri.
That sounds really funny. But I myself might do that sort of thing when looking at your fine art pieces in person
I will keep my fingers crossed wishing you a huge success with the August County Fair this year!
PS I’m in love with this particular black cat named Jeremy right now.
He is the coolest black cat I’ve ever seen!

Hello Lenet, yes exactly! That one I did not mean to sell at all because I did not expect that anyone but me would love it so much that s/he insist on buying. From what I have been experiencing so far, people tend to buy cats’ drawings when they feel the cats in the artworks look like the ones they own.
So probably, the serious senior gentleman has or had some black cats like the ones in this particular drawing.
Thank you so much for your very kind words!
Maki,
I love your story, as much as I love your work and cats! Good to hear from you and congratulations on your art show.
Sonia
Hi Maki - I agree that Jeremy is quite handsome, especially with that collar.
