Dalmatian with pastels, Live Class

My Dalmatian is looking more like a Phantom of the Opera character right now! I have enjoyed working on it! I’m using Canson Mi-Teintes Velvet paper. I like it so far.

ordering the pastel mat paper coming this week cuz this was not the right paper and can’t layer like you’d want to?

Progress report. I got both eyes done. I may do a bit more refining, but every time I touch it to refine, I mess something else up and end up fiddling forever. This paper (Mi Tientes Velvet) is terrific! I seem to still have some tooth everywhere even under several layers.

Brenda you’re doing a fabulous job. I’ve been liking the Velvet paper too.

Thanks, Terri! At this point it will come down to who has the best price – Pastelmat or Mi Tients Velvet. We’ll see!

Thanks for sharing… I had the exact same problem and was getting frustrated. Sometimes I like the textured paper, but not for this project.

@theresebriggs Theresa, did you use canson Mi-Tienes paper? If so I have the same issues. I also find that the Canson velvet touch paper works really well. Don’t be so hard on yourself, I think it has turned out really nice.

Hi friends, your art work is so great, and I am really enjoying drawing along with you.

@Brenda the outline of your dog helped me to understand the folding of the dog’s left ear that dig jog my brain.

I am working right to left, as I am left handed. After having started on Canson Mi Teintes Touch paper, I started all over again on my favorite Pastelmat. Mi Teintes Touch did leave all colors somewhat grey, which I didn’t like at all.

This lesson tought me to throw away paper I don’t like and - most important - how to see and alter 1.000 shades of white. After this drawing, I am thinking of a portrait ofmy dear dog. Mari has black fur with white parts, so why not working on black paper???

Thank you for sharing your art,

Buddy
