Dalmatian with pastels, Live Class

In my usual form, it’s not the best photo, but here is my progress. I’m woefully behind, but should finish on schedule with some commitment this weekend. I’m enjoying the class, and paying more attention to finding the shapes and layering colors. I’m just using Pastel Paper by Strathmore and finding it challenging to layer enough medium. At any rate, I’m happy with how it’s going. As always, I enjoy seeing everyone’s pieces.

Thanks Terri,

Yes used wrong paper so was painstaking to get layers to hold. But I framed it anyway and enjoyed learning more about pastels. Thanks for your kind words!

Buddy thanks for sharing! Yes throwing a few things away saves space for more corrections! Never would have guessed you were left handed. Your art is fabulous and love visiting with you in Live sessions!

Like your board on your easel Memes! I moved my board to the same easel and think it will help me with the right slant on things. Been using it on a flat desk and never liked that anyway!

Good luck on the rest of the classes. Will miss you all after the 21st and a hospital stay for 3-5 days and then rehab with my daughter’s help!

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

Hello Everyone,

Other than a few final embellishments Dottie my Dalmatian is finished. Since Ashley named/called her Dot I adapted the name for mine.

Here is a poem regarding Dottie first.

tie my Dalmatian

Dottie, my Dalmatian, played in my paint.

When I arrived, I was too late.

Her ears were purple,

Eyes were bright green,

She had orange fur,

A secondary color Scheme.

When in the live classes,

She learned many things,

painting and drawing and color theory.

Her teachers are excellent.

They taught her well,

Ashley narrated while Matt worked on her friend.

Showing off her knowledge

I finally did see,

I would have to let her wear this secondary color scheme.

Teri, Your ode to Dot is so clever and fun. Dot herself has quite a personality, and I lick her warm glow. I’m looking forward to seeing all the Dots as we get to the doggie finish line.

I have nearly finished my drawing also, I named him Bentley. This class taught me to use the right paper, I used pastel paper and there was not enough tooth. In the middle of the project I purchased Canson Mietents Velvet and I’m excited to try it, I’m thinking of doing my own dog with that, as I’m very pleased with how well Bentley came out. Looking forward to putting the finishing touches on this piece in class this week.

Hello Li8s, Bentley is quite handsome. Should we introduce them - lol!

i really like the Canson velvet touch. It is the same type of tooth as PastelMat but feels a little heavier to me. But then this is my first time to use PastelMat. I look forward to seeing your dog when you finish.

You made, Teri, and finished your wonderful Dottie!!!

Love it even more.

Lol, I have seen her when both Dottie and my dalmatian where half finished. I need to wait for the next class, as I have some questions for Matt and Ashley regarding my dog.

This is, how it looks today and what he wrote at first sight of Dottie:

Ode for Dottie

Dottie, what a wonderful world,
Green eyed, that is my joy,
Dots like elbony and ivory,
Live together in perfect harmony.

Two halves makes a One,
You and I,
A bitch and her lover,
Please, let me hold your hand.

If we can make it here,
On our sheets,
We will make it everywhere,
It’s up to you,
New York?
Rio?
Tokio?

My name is Ode,
Ode the Dalmatian

A gentle hug,
From one crazy place to another,
Friends will be friends,

All versions of this cutie look terrific!!! I thought I’d post an update. I’m ready to do the body. I’m nervous! But pastels are pretty forgiving.

Same here, Lisa, I started with paper that turned all colors in a greyish whatsoever color. So I started all over again on PastelMat and fed the trash with the paper. I am too thinking about drawing my own dog. Mari is black with some grey-white spots. So why not drawing her on black paper??? Lol

Bentley looks very cute and lovely. You gave him a unique expression!

Once I tried sanded paper such as pastelmat canson touch or canson velvet I didn’t like canson miteintes for soft pastels anymore. I think you’ll enjoy the canson velvet, I love that canson velvet offers a variety of different colors including a true black color. Still, I personally consider clairfontaine pastelmat my all time favorite. I can’t wait to hear from your own experience with velvet!
