Cat - gettin sketchy 8/21/24

Well that was fun! I did not clean up after my last pastel project and my grays were missing! So I used alot of purples!

Please post yours when/if you do!

Very nice!! I really like the relaxed feel of your drawing. I’m really working on being able to loosen up. I most often over work many of my pet drawings. Thanks for sharing!

I just finished my cat. I used sanded Canson miteintes Touch - black pastel paper it’s almost like pastelmat. I liked it, especially because it is also available in black although it has an “ink” odor. I only used a couple of pastel layers to make it sketchy and finish fast because it is late. I used pastel pencils. Left the cat somewhat unfinished because I must go to bed

Fantastic, @junenez - I cannot draw along, but like to re-watch and draw afterwards. Your cat looks great!

Amazing, @Meme5 what you can achieve within an hour! And thx for talking about the paper you were working on. I’ve got a pad of Canson me teintes Touch, but haven’t used it yet. Will do so, as the cat seems a perfect start working on black paper.

You are all doing so great,
Buddy

Both of your cats turned out great! I really enjoy how the both have their own distinct personality and look., you each have your own fingerprint when it comes to art. I am still searching…

Again, both cats are very majestic in their own ways.

Hi Sonia -
Well done. I’ve never heard of this paper. I looked at Blick and they only have big sheets. Do you know if it is sold in pads?

I only had black paper so that’s what I used! Still learning my way around pastels. Well, around every medium, actually. I was happy with this as a quick sketch, but I have a long way to go!

Having a blurr vision, I first took the stones as the front paws of the cat. It looked to very cute and perky to me. Than I realized, no not paws but perfectly well decorated.

I really do like your sketch,
Buddy

This is just beautiful. My journey ahead is long but work like this cat is inspiring. It’s interesting to see how different styles are expressed on the same project.

Hi Sonia @Meme5
Thanks for the link. This is the paper that is supposed to be even better than PastelMat Right? If you use all 12 sheets in the pad it would be $4.42 a sheet, and it comes from Japan. I’m going to have to think about this one for a while. Let me know if you get it yourself, and if so what you think about it.

Terri @robichon No, actually this is canson miteintes and comparable to clairfontaine pastelmat.
The new clairfontaine PASTELGRAIN is more textured and holds way more pastel layers, also not readily available yet.

Also there is now a NEWER canson miteintes VELVET. Not available yet in the USA.

Here’s a link to the place where I found the PASTELGRAIN.
The new Canson VELVET will be available in October.

Gettin’ to fancy with the paper here!
