Dalmatian with pastels, Live Class

Hi Sonia @Meme5

It’s wonderful how you take the time to share your experiences with various art supplies with others here on the forum. You are awesome when it comes to using pastels as we all have seen time and time again, so you really do know what you’re talking about. The Dalmatian is coming along nicely as well. Looking forward to this one being completed. I don’t plan to do this one myself.

Terri @robichon

Thank you for always being a positive energy for me and others here. You are right about my tendency to try anything and everything related to soft pastels. I left out pastelgrain, also made by clairfontaine which is highly toothy for tons more layers than pastelmat.

@Meme5 Sonia, your Dalmatian is amazing. I swear she can tell I’m eating cheese, she’s asking for a bite with those beseeching eyes.

Lisa

All done. Framed and hung.

Just finished my dalmatian. I tried hard to fix some scratches on the paper that happened, when I was about 3/4 finished. Fixing with pastels and water helped a little. Thank you all so very much with all your advices!!!

Yeah, and then I used fixative. Oh no, all whites messed up. I had to go on top on the whole dog, but then I lost control over my body due to a seizure. You name it!!! Ending up with some bad smears, I did clean it up again and called this one finished.

Yes, this has been a very teaching lesson for me.

Finished my Dalmatian. I will clean up the dots and all around the negative space meeting the positive space because per usual as soon as I load up the picture, all kinds of little things pop up. But I consider mine finished. It only took me a looong time.

Hi Sonia @Meme5

OMG - You’re like the Energizer Bunny . . . you keep going, and going, and going. Working on the watercolor clouds, working on the ink church and now finishing the Dalmatian.

Proud of you and not just how much you are doing, but also the quality of your work.

Thank you Therese. It was fun to make Dottie with a poem.

Hi Buddy

The Dalmatian looks really good, and I never would have guessed how much you struggled with it. Thank you for sharing your beautiful drawing. (I didn’t see it when you posted, so I’m sorry for the delay in making a comment.)

Lol, Therese, these kind of things do happen! I am glad you posted your lovely colorful landscape. Did you use avrylics?

Buddy

Yes it was my first acrylic by myself …no help from Matt or Ashley this time!

Can’t wait to do the new acrylic he’s is talking about for '" Mondays with Matt" starting next week 5-18-26 !

Here’s him in the frame!

This lady seems to be a bit concerned that her fur might not be white enough - just kidding. Your dalmation is looking very cute. What paper di you use? Doesn’t look like Pastelmat to me?

Buddy

Yes but I’m figuring out the way to add and delete things I’ve added before so will put it in the right spot. It is an acrylic I did several years ago from a postcard I received from a friend.

My finished Dalmatian so many months later! Volleyball season was a real time hoarder this year!!

Yeah, Brenda, congratulatuon to both squeezing out time for art and sharing your adorable dalmatian. Does it come woth a name? I am happy to see you again, but totally understand why you would not have wanted to miss any game.

See ya, Buddy

Hey @Buddy ! My dalmatian began it’s adventure with the name of Phantom, because I thought it looked like the Phantom of the Opera’s mask, just a little bit, when I was working only on the head and face! I never gave it a different name so Phantom it will be. Thanks for your kind comments! I am trying to discover a better balance so that art doesn’t have to take a backseat to volleyball season. We’ll see how that goes this year! You’re right, though, I wouldn’t have missed one single practice or tournament for anything! Her tryouts for the next season are coming up on Monday!
