Derwent pastel pencils

I got a set of gently used Derwent pastel pencils from a friend. I’ve tried to sharpen them, but it seems quite difficult and the tips keep breaking off. Does anybody have any ideas from experience on how to sharpen these pencils. Thx.

It is difficult to sharpen pastel pencils. I use a nail file. The soft side.

Hello, In general I have not had trouble sharpening derwent pencils. Do not use a pencil sharpener. I use a box cutter then sand them to a point with sand paper. However, I’m pretty sure my color saffron came broken inside the barrel because as you can see in the picture, it is the smaller one but I have hardly used it. The led kept breaking off every time i sharpened it until it got so small.
Sadly, if your pencils have been moved from place to place and/or dropped, chances are the led inside the pencils’ barrels are shattered hence the persistent breaking off. I’m so sorry you’re having this problem.
I hope this helps.

Hi @Marina16 - See what @Meme5 said. No reason for me to repeat what she said.

I had the same issue and reached out directly to the company. They were super nice and sent replacements! Give it a try.
