After I began drawing and particularly after following tutorials from VI and others I started noticing how entertainment media follows principles of art , and since everything which appears in film or TV is deliberately placed as part of their illusion , the principles of art are being deliberately employed by the director. I must have let this pass me by for 50+ years since I didn’t see it before but now I see it in many productions ! Without trying to make art and infringe copyright of course I think it could be a source of inspiration for art learners like me. Today’s discovery on ‘that Tube’ is Barry Lyndon directed by Stanley Kubrick , every frame is a painting !
Do VI members have any recommendations ?
Hello Trevor,
Recommendations no but it is fascinating what you have picked up in motion pictures.
I do find that when riding in the car I see value in everything now. Volume in the trees, movement I try to decide how could I create that movement in my artwork.
I see colors in the clouds like something awakened in me to truly see the forms of and colors in the clouds, the depth.
I see ideas for sketching everywhere I look around my apartment from a bookcase to a basket of yarn and half finished crochet project and on and on.
It’s all inspiring wetting the appetite to keep watching and looking at the world around us.
The next time I watch a show I’ll look deeper to find the artwork within the frames of the show.
Good nudge to keep our minds alert,
Teri (w1r)
