Live Lesson Pastel Landscape 7/19/23

Tonight’s progress. Bottom is looking messy. I hope I fix that next week :grinning:

@Brenda It’s beautiful!
I’m close to catching up with last week’s lesson 4, if tonight’s lesson gets uploaded by the weekend I should be able to be all caught up by next week :crossed_fingers:t3:

I’ve just completed lesson 4. I’d love to follow live, but time zones don’t help with this.
The paper I’m using is probably a bit too smooth but it’s working fairly well.
I’m also using Mungyo pastels and Derwent Pastel Pencils.

Brenda I know it! Our drawings are super the same?! :crazy_face:Especially now that I changed my lightbulbs to natural light as opposed to warm white

Yours all look so realistic! I got a bit ahead last night and worked on the rest of the water and now am struggling with the transition to dark and getting it smooth enough.

I think I’m almost finished: I just have to get rid of the white in the nearer grasses. Any suggestions are welcome.

Hi June. I’m working in a 7 x 10 multimedia book so my pic is about 5.5x 8

I like the brightness in you added to your landscape. Can’t wait to see it all finished!

It’s beautiful. Try using a pencil blender to help fill in the tooth of the paper.

Thank you. I’m really looking forward to completing it myself. I have some better pastel paper on order and it should arrive on Saturday.

Hello all,

Here is my interpretation so far. I am a bit behind but hope to get caught up before Wednesday. I can’t imagine having two live lessons partially done and starting a third one.

Finally caught up. Sadly I won’t be able to work along the next live lesson, I’ll be watching though

Sonia,

Wow, you have a great handle on pastels, I am still like a toddler with a crayon,

Teri

Those are all looking so amazing! I missed this week and will miss next week cause out of town. Can’t wait to catch up

@TLP Teri,
Thank you for your compliment, no thank you for your self description. I think you have a softness on your rendering. Your marsh landscape is more light and gentle. As long as we love the process that’s all that matters in the end, at least for me that’s the case.
Besides, I love, love, love, soft pastels. I’ve been using three different brands of pastel pencils, along with Rembrandt pastel sticks, nupastels, and sennelier pastel sticks on these marsh lessons… I wish all the lessons were soft pastels :crazy_face:

Sonia,

I do really enjoy pastels too though I cannot afford the paper or variety of brands I would like to use. But that really does not matter to me, like you said it is the process. I am having fou when I find the energy these days, as there are seasons with Lyme disease that can be rough. But what else can we do besides take the difficulties in stride.

Did you say you taught English as a second language? When I lived in Guatemala, I taught English as a second language a couple of years grades K - 10. Also, I homeschooled my oldest two so that they would learn English as we only spoke Spanish in the house and town.

Thank you for your kind words and encouragement regarding my style. We have to just be who we are.

@TLP Teri,

I am sorry you struggle with chronic illness. I have no idea what Lyme disease must feel like and pray that you keep finding happy energy times when you can do what you love.
I’ve been an ESL/Bilingual/SPED aide for 18 years. Originally I wanted to be a nurse, however after thinking that we’d only have two precious boys, my youngest child was born with Down Syndrome. She had a couple of health challenges that required us all to adjust our lives for the better. As she entered PPCD (preschool for special needs children) at 3 yrs old, the principal recruited me to help with translating and such since my first language is Spanish. Started school to become a teacher, did great…only half semester. At the time, my daughter (and her older brothers) needed my attention more than I needed to be a teacher and I am very happy the way it all worked out doing what I love and getting paid for it. I wouldn’t want it any other way. Besides teachers are so under appreciated nowadays!
So now that my children are all full grown adults, I decided I’m doing something I love just for the joy of doing it.
So here I am.
Here I am, sharing, seeing what all others share, and best of all learning.

Sonia - Once again you have done a really nice job. On the live lessons, my policy has always been to watch first, and then do it later at my own pace. No reason to stress yourself out or compromise your drawing in order to do it quicker than you are comfortable with. That way you can also keep an eye on the chat from time to time.

Now it’s my turn to get started on this one, because I definitely want to do it.
