These boots are great. Many people do the October ink challenge and it’s a good way to keep motivated to draw. Please keep sharing.

Thanks Lisa @HarleysMom for the kind words. I have to say that I find myself looking at the cat in the closet drawing over and over again. It’s becoming one of my all time favorites.

Wow Sonia, the detail is amazing, colours are so vibrant, it definitely looks good enough to eat
First I see Sonia’s beautiful apple and then I come across your tempting strawberries, looks like fruit salad for dessert
Your art work just keeps getting better.
Cheers

This tiny ball of fluffy feathers is a female Splendid Fairy Wren. They’re the sweetest little birds and we see quite a lot of them out in the bush and coastal areas in different parts of Australia. The photo reference I used is from Christine Vella, an amazing photographer who lives in Western Australia. I used soft pastels for the background and pastel pencils for the bird and branch. The surface is UArt sanded paper, probably not the best choice for pastel pencils.
Cheers

Hi @cmhales7 Cathy -
I love birds, but this little one is new to me here in Minnesota in the United States. Nicely done.
Thanks for the kind words about my strawberries. This is such a good place for us to support each other on our artistic journeys. Keep those drawings coming.

Terri this is magnificent.
I totally appreciate being confused with very talented Terri Robichon aka @robichon, especially since her work truly is magnificent, however this is Sonia Alonzo aka @Meme5.
I find the confusion hilarious

Cathy @cmhales7,
Your Fairy wren is precious and very well done. I’ve never used Uart paper, I know it’s a great pastel paper by researching it since I started drawing. The point being that I don’t really understand why not a good choice for pastel pencils. Your Fairy wren is flawless. The feathers’ texture is wonderful. Beautiful piece!

Here’s my pears drawing I’m working on. It’s on smooth Bristol board, can’t remember the size, but the pears’ measure about 13 inches from top to bottom with prismacolor and polychromos.
Sonia
One pear down, two more to go
Thanks for your kind comments Sonia, I really appreciate feedback from more experienced artists. Although I haven’t used my pastel pencils before, I felt the UArt 400 grit was a little bit too rough. I originally bought it to use for painting with soft pastels in a looser style. Have you done much work using pastel pencils, and if so which surface do you prefer?
This is shaping up really well Sonia, I love that you’re continuing with the fruit theme and it’s a decent size too. Looking forward to seeing it completed
Cheers Cathy
Hi Cathy @cmhales7,
I never get tired of saying that soft pastels are my all time favorite medium (media?) in every shape or form. Yes, I’ve used pastel pencils many times. I’ve always used pastelmat with pencils. I tend to mix sticks, pan pastels, all soft pastels depending on the size. I use pitt pastel pencils, stabilo carbothello, derwent, conte a paris and a few caran d’ache.

Hi Sonia @Meme5
My gosh girl. This is really really good. Why don’t you realize what an incredible artist you are. Fruit, dogs, people, and the list goes on. You can do it all.

Terri, absolutely beautiful, could not look anymore realistic than that does.Great job, Ron
Hi Sonia.
I can tell you’re enjoying this drawing, and I like being able to watch your progress as you work on it.

Hi Friends -
Just sharing what I’m working on now. It’s an 11 x 14 ballpoint pen drawing. Once again I’m using the Zebza - Rubber 80 pen. I started by putting down an ink wash in a few areas to help me map out where the darkest values are located. There will be an eagle sitting at the end of the limb on the left side and a lot more small branches. If you look close you can see that I have already drawn the talons. I’ve worked on this a couple of days so far.
The reference was a photo I took at a neighbor’s house, when she called to let me know that 3 eagles were sitting on her tree. I just loved the texture of this old branch that one was sitting on.

Shut the front door! Terri @TLP !!
You are taking that ball point pen and running with it girl! Lovely!
Are you one of those people that make little gestures as you work, or are you just nonchalantly drawing ? Haha
Sonia
Thank you @robichon!
I am really enjoying getting to understand using colored (and the solvent) pencils more independently as opposed to following a tutorial from beginning to end. I think the bristol board is my personal favorite for colored pencils. Also practicing using the solvent and being more patient with building layers has been getting better.
…….your ball point pen branch ….O. EM. GEE!
