Pelicans at sunset

My latest completed oil painting. 20x16 canvas. It’s from my own photo with some artistic license taken.

Really pretty image, has a really nice mood to it, I’m also working with oils so it’s nite seeing another artist using it. Is it the water mixable oils or normal? Really nice good!

Hi James @jcfuller

What a great painting, and it’s pretty big too. Painting from your own photos can be so satisfying. Well done!!!

Thanks Samuel,

It’s regular oil paint. Mostly from a brand in Mexico that is pretty cheap but good quality. I’ll look forward to seeing some of your oil work.

Thanks Terri,

I try to use my own photos when I can. My wife is an artist and she tells me if I use ssmeone elses photo then it’s not my composition.

Interesting, I really like the water mixable oils because they are easier to clean the brushes and pallet. I can’t wait to snow my oil paint, it’s of sheep in the Scottish highlands. Also I have had that thought about using your own photo references, mainly you can determine where stuff is going to go and you have to make any changes, but photos on the internet are easier to find and I do a lot of things which I don’t have a photo of.
