I did an ink sketch from a photograph of ‘FROST WEED.’ I don’t have permission from the photographer to post it yet, so I’m directing you to her website so you can see some photos of this amazing phenomenon and read about the process. Beautiful Ice Sculptures of Frostweed | Great Stems
It seems the site is maybe dormant, so I may not hear back from her. I will continue to search for a royalty-free image to do a pen and ink wash drawing from.
Enjoy the browsing of the beautiful photos if you choose to visit the site.
My reference photo was taken in mid-August 2019, in far West Texas. This was a tiny, shallow collection of rain water on the concrete slab, where the picnic table sat, in our campsite at Davis Mountains State Park. It was blisteringly hot, and these two little frogs took refuge and comfort where it could be found. Notice how flattened out the frog on the right is!
Staedtler pigment liner .05 mm, and dabs of white ink for emphasis.
These are all wonderful. I’ve been inspired and stared the “subjects with pen and ink” course. I really want to improve my line work.
We’re nearing the end of October, will you continue the habit?
Thanks, Jane!! I have thoroughly enjoyed Inktober. I will continue the habit of drawing something every day, but it will be nice to venture back into colored pencils and other media I enjoy. That said, I’m so in love with ink. I’m especially enamored with ink and watercolor wash. I’m glad you’ve enjoyed watching the progression thru this challenge.
I highly recommend the “Subjects With Pen and Ink” course. Looking over the ones I have completed really indicates the progress I’ve made. I’m sure Inktober made a real difference too.
I ordered a small set of Liqitex colored inks. That’s what I used for the snake. His has also vastly improved my use of nib pens. I actually LIKE using them now.
I have coloured inks on my wish list, for now I just have a great big bottle of black ink.
I really have to get into using my nib pen. I have a massive fear of knocking the ink over myself and everything else.
My bottle of yellow leaked all over my hand when I opened it one day. Not sure why. Have some yellow stains on my art table now. More character! But, I get it. Even spilling a small amount on yourself, your artwork, or your computer would be frustrating to say the least. I probably need to get an apron to wear and put my computer on a stand.
My biggest problem is that I work at the same desk. So every day everything gets cleared away to make room for the work laptop. As the day progresses though I find my art materials creeping in.
I finally made room for a small drop leaf table. The room is a bit crowded, but quite functional. My work desk, our homeschool desk, and the art table are here. Plus storage for all those beautiful supplies.
pretty cool boot! i don’t what it is, people are fascinated by boots sitting a round - lots of curves and perhaps natural materials i guess - reminds me of norman rockwell
Still working ahead. Tomorrow begins a very busy week, but I’m in “executive director” mode and have a two-week plan all laid out. If it works as it should, I can get everything done and still have drawing time. I use this same system during the holidays so that when visitors arrive and meals are served, there’s little stress because as much as possible is done ahead. Now if I can just keep myself well. and not RUSH!!
The prompt for day 30 is RUSH. I just had some fun with this one. The treatment of the letters was an attempt to make them look metallic. It worked a little. LOL! Need to study Janet Fish’s work some more.
