Doing a graphite drawing and I am having trouble getting a terry cloth towel light colored to look right. Any suggestions or techniques that you may have used.

I’m sorry my english isn’t advanced enough to know what a terry cloth towel is? Perhaps if you uploaded an image, of the object you a having trouble with, it might be easier to make suggestions or recommendations?
SYS @siffermus terry cloth is a soft absorbent fabric woven with tiny loops of thread that holds a large amount of water. It is soft to use as a towel for babies. Hope this helps. I don’t have a sample just the photo reference.

I was wondering myself. To me it seems that a terry cloth towel is a Froteehandtuch in German. Google translator suggests frottéhandklaede in Danish.

Thanks @Buddy and Jim for explaining. I now know what it is - google translate wasn’t far of. A “Frottehåndklæde”. I did draw one once, a few years back. It was part of a drawing texture excercise in an art class. It is all about lifting. First layer in the values - that would be the dark values - and disregard the texture at this stage. When you are happy with the value you do the lifting with either a tombow or an elctric eraser. Then you go over it again and add the value to those lifted ares that need it. I hope this helps.

First of all thank you for sharing this drawing. It certainly will help. I did find a technique called scumbling which is drawing tiny interlocking circles. Thank you as well for the Deutsch lesson. My father was born in Berlin and since that and older generations have passed away I do not hear the language spoken anymore.
