I live in Indianapolis and happened to see this display of Bob Ross souvenirs. I thought that I would share this because I think most of us have at least heard of Bob Ross. He really was an amazing individual. Before his death, they were filming his PBS programs in Muncie, Indiana. There is now a museum there in his honor called The Bob Ross Experience.
If Bob Ross meant anything to you as an aspiring artist, feel free to share. Perhaps you have a favorite quote of his. He had at least 50!
One of my favs: âI think each one of us, sometime in our life, has wanted to paint a picture.â
I used to watch his show every week when I was a kid. His show encouraged me to take art classes in school and to practice drawing and painting. I love art and I can attribute that in part to Bob Ross.
Bill, I live in Bloomington, IN. I knew there was a museum but have not been there. Thanks for mentioning it. I will make that one of my destinations soon.
Pleased to meet a fellow âHoosierâ! I spent a semester at IU in â75 and my oldest son graduated from IU. I like Bloomington.
Bob Ross definitely encouraged me in my art journey, as did my mom. She bought me my first art book which was called Learn to Draw by Jon Gnagy. Jon also had a television program. I still remember drawing his âsnow sceneâ lesson!
Oh, another thing about Bob Ross, is that he has such a calm, soothing and positive voice and message. I was just sure I could be an artist after watch his show!
I hope you are still drawing or painting!?
Thanks for sharing
Bill Potts
Yes, I still draw, though I have less time than I did since Iâm having to do more things for my mom. She no longer drives so I have to spend more time helping her out. But thankfully I still find time to draw.
I also remember Jon Gnagy. I think I had an art instruction book by him. But I was definitely more familiar with Bob Ross.
I remember randomly watching bits and pieces of his show back when we still changed the channel by turning the knob on one of those chunky tv consoles haha! No idea what he was saying since I didnât speak any English; but it was entertaining enough for me to watch segments of his show. Never tried to paint or draw in those days. Seemed like something totally impossible to do so I was just super impressed by him.
Used to love watching Bob Ross. He said one of my favorite quotes which I have used many times over the years : âthere are no mistakes, just happy little accidentsâ. Great words to live by as an artist especially!
