Here’s my fire hydrant. It was so much fun, especially after having been doing the 25 days to better drawing this week during lunch break!
Pen and ink are so difficult to do on my own outside of just a sphere. Trying to figure out where the hatching becomes cross hatching, then curves or diagonal…I’m including my 18 months ago pen and ink on my own trial vs my follow along lessons along with fire hydrant.
Skipped days 8,9, and 10 because I didn’t have grey toned paper with me, tomorrow I will do those
My fire hydrant is wonderful compared to the very first of my sketchy inky drawings
I love that I’ve learned so much
great job come keep it up
Hi Sonia @Meme5
It’s so fun, isn’t it, when we can see our own progress because of lessons and practice. Nice job, especially with the fire hydrant from gettin sketchy.

When I saw this lesson, I was thinking: this looks so cool. The second thought was: and it looks easy as well! … How wrong I was with that second thought
This was really challenging for me, but happy I pushed thru it.
Here it is
Nice job @Lucy. They always look easier than they are. No matter how much experience you have. Thanks for sharing.

@Lucy I really like your fire hydrant . The detail is great! Keep it up !

I love it. Great job.
I completed the fire hydrant in real time, but I didn’t post because I deviated from pen and ink- I have this very serious preference for grayscale alcohol markers and chose to do an underpainting situation and then I didn’t want to put ink over it. So, I missed the mark on the lesson, but I enjoyed myself.
Hi Lisa @HarleysMom -
It’s perfectly fine if you took a different approach to the fire hydrant. I do that often myself. The thing is that you’re drawing and liking what you created.

The wind is howling outside and rain in bashing against the window. Second storm in the past two days and I’ve no plans to leave the house today. Perfect time to catch up with Gettin’ Sketchy.
Thankfully I haven’t lost power but there is a lot of people without power still from Storm Éowyn (hurricane speed winds) and efforts are being hampered by the current Storm.
@janed ,
I think your fire hydrant is really good…
Pen and ink is challenging to me. My fire hydrant was pretty well built before I added the ink, which made the top the most lopsided. But the hatching and crosshatching without tutorial would be a nightmare for me.

@Meme5 You should take a look at the latest video from Zack Feldman on YouTube, it’s about hatching.
