Hi Sonia @Meme5 -
For someone who has a history of struggling with oil paints, I gotta say you are making huge strides in learning how to work with this media. You deserve to be proud of your accomplishments with this painting.

Sonia, you have created a beautiful piece of artwork with this landscape. The rocks are really nice, I wouldn’t fiddle with it to much. The look like they could be lava rocks from a nearby volcano.
Your water also has great movement. You definitely have a personal style. So nice we can all be ourselves and not feel like we have to be like Matt, Ashley, or anyone else here on the forum.
See you at the live lesson,

Teri w1r,
I appreciate your kindness and support, I still think my rocks are bad lol. The beautiful part of it is that I am slowly beginning to understand how oil paints work, the fear of oils is gone, acquired a little more patience, and best of all, it’s been an enjoyable experience
I hope all is well on your part of the world, considering the set of events around you.

Hello Sonia (with 0r’s)
I agree that working with any medium we can learn to appreciate how it works and then into our own style.
I have found that sometimes what I like the least someone else will say they really like that part.
This has helped me to work how I like and take in everyones likes and dislikes for the next project.
i really like your mountains. you may learn to like them too as you take breaks away and come back to take another look!!
Things are still not great here but I just take one day at a time! i know you do the same.

I am finished with my oil landscape! I don’t love the finished piece but I am in love with water soluble oils now! I can now mix colors without making a horrible mess, the painting is actually a recognizable shape of sorts, I will not use canvas, but linen canvas instead, or masonite, or anything less textured.
Hi Sonia @Meme5
I really like how this turned out. Before I started doing any oil or acrylic painting, my preconception was that it could only be done on canvas. I didn’t like the texture because it made it hard to do fine detailed work.
Then I finally figured out you can paint on pretty much any surface. Now I mostly use the 300# hot press watercolor paper (thick and smooth) or illustration board (thick and smooth). I think the ‘Museum Board’ would be a perfect option (thick and smooth).

Sonia,
This turned woderful! I too enjoy using water mixable oils. It may be ahead of acrylicsw that I have been using for years.
Now to finish a zebra I have been working on for over a year in water mixable oils.
then I’ll give acrylics another shot!!
This a lovely landscape.
