What a great idea! I have been away for a week and I am in between projects! I did do this quick drawing today in my art class - assignment was to copy one of the abstract arts the instructor had on the table.
Hi June - Glad you are back and joining in on this chat. What a fun drawing. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Terri, that’s great detective work on your part and yes it is lovely to make friends with people all over the world!
I did end up using the Blackwings for the whole drawing and they were great, particularly the white Pearl, very versatile. I took care to lay down the graphite very gently and used layers and I’ve been using my Tombow and kneaded eraser to work their hair. Only problem is it’s very easy to get bogged down in the details and not know when it’s finished.
You’re right, I did use the grid method to transfer my drawing, I’ve used it with my last couple of drawings too. I’m actually using Fabriano hot press water colour paper. It was a toss up between that and the Strathmore Bristol vellum. I’m really enjoying using graphite which is strange because I love colour but it forces me to concentrate on the values and contrasts which is good practice. I’ve tried doing a background this time but I’m not sure how successful I’ve been so it might be a good idea to send this one to Matt for a critique .
The little rascals I’m drawing are my grandchildren, Sidney and Joan. They live in the suburbs of Melbourne, capital city of Victoria, so I don’t see them as often as I’d like to. Fortunately my son and daughter in law send me lots of photos and videos of them.
The room I’m using is actually our dining room but it faces north and is usually quite sunny so it is like a sun room. It’s only a temporary set-up as I’ll be moving back into my studio this weekend. My husband suggested expanding the space, so now it’s huge, more than enough room for all the art supplies I seem to be gathering!
Cheers Cathy
Thanks for the response Cathy. Hot press watercolor paper is probably my favorite paper, and if I could only have one paper, that’s what it would be.
When looking at your finished (?) artwork, especially the ones that are black and white, my trick is to look for opportunities to make the lights lighter, and the darks darker. Most people are afraid of creating strong contrast, especially with the darks. But quite often that is what is needed.
You’ll have to take a photo or two after you’re settled into your enlarged studio and post it here for us to see. How exciting to get a new and improved creative space.

I meant to share my art space as requested.
My art table is also my sewing table. And my easel in the other corner Drawers contain a mix of art and sewing supplies
Hi June @junenez - It’s hard enough to find space for artwork, but must be even harder to have to accommodate sewing also. I absolutely love how you hang your completed artwork on the wall grid with clothes pins. Not sure - but is that a drawing of a cow on the easel that you’ve just started? The grid system of drawing seems to be working well for several members of our chat, including you.
Thanks for sharing your bright and cheery space with us.

Okay! I want to play. ha ha As you can probably see nothing is organized. This a small room in the back of the house. I plan to make some drawers that will fit under the bench against the wall but for now it’s a mess.
This is actually cleaner than other times when I’m carving. There are a million wood chips on the floor.
Hi Lenet. Nice looking space. When is the big move planned?
Terri Robichon
Hi Peter. Nice to have you join in. Having a dedicated space that is your own and can be left “as is” is a great thing. Love seeing that you’ve surrounded yourself with your artwork. My husband and I had a close friend who did a lot of carving. A wonderful outlet for one’s creativity. (Our friend passed away from lung cancer a couple years ago. I took photos of all his carvings for him. You’ve stirred up a lot of special memories.) will you post photos of some of your carvings?
Terri Robichon
Thank you Terri @robichon . We are trying to get here in the next couple of weeks. I’ll have to post again after getting all set up.
Lenet
Great idea Terri! This is my work space. Just started a color pencil drawing on Art Spectrum smooth paper.
Hi Bill. So glad that you decided to join us. Great looking colored pencil drawing on your drawing board. What a functional table you have, including the coffee cup with what I assume are the colored pencils you are using for the current project. It’s also interesting that your drawing surface is magnetic. That would let you rotate the drawing if desired when working on it. I don’t think I’ve seen one of these before but it makes a lot of sense. I smile at the secluded spot reserved for your eraser shield. Everyone needs to have one of those in a handy location. Now, don’t forget to post your finished drawing for us to see.

Nice setup! And organized.
I work in a converted bathroom that has decent light. Just started a new project, just a small
still life of bottles to practice my new pastels. Best feature of my space is that it has a door to keep three dogs, a cat and one husband out of the way, lol!
Thank you.
I try to be organized. When I saw this topic it grabbed my attention. Thanks Terri!! I love to see how others manage doing their art. My use of a magnetic dry erase board came from observing how someone else does it. Drawing on a tilted surface keeps me from being hunched over for hours. I don’t want to look like the Hunchback of Notre Dame when I get older.
Beautiful art can be created at your kitchen table, you don’t need a fancy-schmancy art table. You can be very well organized or totally messy. (If you ever saw my son’s room when he was in art school, you’d know what I’m talking about). So don’t be afraid or embarrassed to share how you work. You might, however, make sure there’s nothing in the pic you don’t want others to see. Apparently, Terri and I like to zoom in and see every detail! I was surprised you saw my almost hidden eraser shield!
I will post the picture I’m working on when I’m done.
I like that…a door to keep the dogs, cat and husband out of the way! We have a condo and my work space is in the loft. No doors, but it’s just my wife and me. One thing I absolutely love is when my granddaughters (9 & 11) come over. The first thing they do is come up to see what I’m working on!
You have a very organized space!
Thanks for sharing,
Bill Potts
Tania,
The hand looks awesome. Hands are very difficult for me to draw!

Hi @Marina16 - Thanks so much for participating and nice to see not only your work area, but also your current project. You are very neat and clean compared to a lot of us. I love the idea of a door so you have a way to keep the pets out. My husband is not a problem because he’s been “trained” that he can look, but NOT touch. Besides, half of our hobby room is used by him for building models, so I can’t keep him out.
