I know how pictures can be a lesser version of actual art work in person, so I can only imagine how gorgeous this drawing must be in person considering that your posted picture is wonderful!
It’s funny that since I posted this, I’ve been working on the branches in the surrounding area. It makes what I posted look naked. Can’t wait to see this continue to evolve.
Finally got to do the line work on this one - ready for either hatching or watercolour or a combination can’t decide. But pleased with the line work just shouldn’t have blacked out the drain pipe… But hey ho!
Great Terri, thank you for sharing this fabulous artwork.
I love the dance of all the branches. I think your selection of the scene has contributed a great deal to the success of this work. The contrast between the unswerving dignified eagle vs freewheeling movement of the branches makes the scene really dynamic. The waving shape of the object in the foreground also works to make an interesting visual rhythm in the scene.
As a pen drawing freak, what I love the most in pen drawings in general is the transition from darkest dark to darkest grey. Whether you can achieve this successfully or not decides how real and believable your work can be in the end. In this drawing, I can identify some parts where this transition occurs, and they are purrrrfectly executed. I say “purrrrrrfectly” because I tend to purr when satisfied and happy with artworks.
By the way, in “Terri’s Groove” I drew a “Brown Thrasher” for the first time and found out that they are so “pen-drawingable”(mimicking “instagrammable”).
So I made a drawing kit using this bird as a subject.
I’m still waiting to hear back from the LA curator, but if there will be the show, I am going to include this as a selling item over there.
Thank you so much for letting me know about this bird!
