Hi everyone,

I haven’t posted my progress on this drawing for a while, but now that the eagle is done, I thought you’d like to take a look.

Next is the entire background with tons of small branches.

Just as a reminder, this is 11x14 using the Zebra - Rubber 80 black ballpoint pen.

Terri w1R,

I know how pictures can be a lesser version of actual art work in person, so I can only imagine how gorgeous this drawing must be in person considering that your posted picture is wonderful!

Thanks @Dannomiss89 Dan.

But seriously a big part of the secret is the pen.

Hi Sonia. @Meme5

It’s funny that since I posted this, I’ve been working on the branches in the surrounding area. It makes what I posted look naked. Can’t wait to see this continue to evolve.

I’m positive it will be astonishing when finished, I cannot wait for the finished product.

Finally got to do the line work on this one - ready for either hatching or watercolour or a combination  can’t decide. But pleased with the line work :+1: just shouldn’t have blacked out the drain pipe… But hey ho!

The emotion expressed in this watercolor is wonderful. Using watercolor for this was a perfect match of subject and media and artist. Fantastic piece!

I’m calling this one finished. I used the Zebra - Rubber 80 black ballpoint pen on Strathmore Bristol paper - vellum surface. It’s 11" x 14".

Hi Dan.

I really like this. Is it one of the lessons here. I think I’d like to do it.

Great Terri, thank you for sharing this fabulous artwork.
I love the dance of all the branches. I think your selection of the scene has contributed a great deal to the success of this work. The contrast between the unswerving dignified eagle vs freewheeling movement of the branches makes the scene really dynamic. The waving shape of the object in the foreground also works to make an interesting visual rhythm in the scene.
As a pen drawing freak, what I love the most in pen drawings in general is the transition from darkest dark to darkest grey. Whether you can achieve this successfully or not decides how real and believable your work can be in the end. In this drawing, I can identify some parts where this transition occurs, and they are purrrrfectly executed. I say “purrrrrrfectly” because I tend to purr when satisfied and happy with artworks. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: :cat: :upside_down_face:

By the way, in “Terri’s Groove” I drew a “Brown Thrasher” for the first time and found out that they are so “pen-drawingable”(mimicking “instagrammable”).
So I made a drawing kit using this bird as a subject.

I’m still waiting to hear back from the LA curator, but if there will be the show, I am going to include this as a selling item over there.
Thank you so much for letting me know about this bird!

I’m glad to hear you liked that bird. It doesn’t like people and doesn’t show up very often, so I’m excited every time I see one visit me.
