Tried conte crayons for the first time for this sketchy portrait , on the inner surface of an art magazine envelope , since it was slightly rough texture and tan-coloured - waste not want not

Hi Trevor @trevowen

I have a set of Conte Crayons but have never used them. You did a great job with this portrait. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Terri @robichon , thanks very much , I enjoyed trying them out. Enjoyed a YouTube video about art history once which described ‘Trois Crayons’ technique and have often intended to give it a go. You must !

Hi Friends -

The 8x8 Scratchboard drawing of my cat Louie is done. It took about 25 hours, and I worked on it for the last 5 days.

Oh @robichon @robichon

Your Louie is just so handsome and beautifully rendered!
Makes me smile looking at it. I don’t know if he’s affectionate or not, but I would force smooch him regardless…:kissing_heart:

By the way, your Ink Santa Painting is featured on the members minute!! I am watching it as soon as I get home!

Thanks Sonia @Meme5

Your kind words of support mean a lot to me. And I did watch the critique, but appreciate the heads up.

By the way, Louie is a sweetheart. Whenever the dogs go outside, Louie sits at the door waiting till they are safe and back in the house.

Gosh, it just occurred to me that I may need to draw the dogs too.

Hi Sonia @Meme5

I guess if I’m going to do the dogs, I better pick out a reference photo.

By the way my friend, I owe you a huge THANKS for sending me a sample of the white transfer paper. That was the secret to my success with the Louie scratchboard drawing. And that is seriously the truth. I actually just ordered 3 more rolls (in graphite, red and blue). I already have received my full roll of the white.

Happy New Year. And keep reminding me that I committed to doing a dog drawing or painting.

Terri 2r @robichon Glad you liked it!
I think it is the best transfer paper there is. I saw it at another artist’s lessons a while back for pastels. Let me know how you like the graphite one!

Amazing Terri! @robichon
And yes, please, draw the dogs as well (for us to enjoy your art and for them not to be jealous).

This is that last picture I’ve done. It’s a 5” by 7” Christmas Card called “Low Country Christmas.” It was done for a family member who lives in the Low Country of South Carolina. It’s done with Charcoal. All of my close family’s Christmas cards are hand drawn.

Wow, at first glance it looks like a photo. Great work.

I just finished this pastel tonight. It’s based on a photo I took a few years ago. I’m making myself modify photos instead of copying them 100% like I’m used to doing. It was an adventure to make changes from the photo.
