My First Attempt at Charcoal

Today I started “The Charcoal Drawing Course”. Wow, is this different.

Charcoal is NOT graphite. Charcoal paper is NOT Patstelmat. Because they both seemed similar at first, I I kept trying to make them work that way. Hilarious!

Put the medium on. Take the medium off. Repeat ad infinitum. I finally just had to stop fiddling with it because I could keep doing this forever.

My sphere is not “sphering” and I can see why now but it’s time to put it away. I need to wash my hands and probably my face also once I get a good look at myself.

I see you already grasp one of the main point after the first class! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

But seriously, it is looking good! Soon you will like how forgiving medium it is (I think). Once you will draw some realistic picture, you will be surprised how good it will look like.

I haven’t done this course, I think I jumped straight to some live lesson when I tried charcoal, but if you will continue and post the progress, I will be watching, looks interesting :eyes:

Good luck on this (slightly dirty) journey

Thank you. It is so forgiving and I found that so much less stressful than some of the other media. I really enjoyed this but am looking forwrd to doing something less “geometric”.
