Pen and Ink drawings

Thought I would give this one a go. A little tough and not the best I know. Haven’t coloured it or created depth with contrast and tone yet, but nice to do this scene :+1: lots of perspective and learning.:+1: did outline on train to Oxford in pencil first!

Wow! That’s amazing, and what an undertaking! Can’t wait to see its progress. What size is this? I do love your work.

Thanks Brenda. Its only less that A5 size so nothing massive, but scenes like this are a bit overwhelming, but hoping it will come out nice. Going to photocopy the page and try a few hatching experiments and see how I get on

I decided to photocopy my Cotswold drawing so I could practice some hatching. This is attempt number one :heart::+1:

WOW Dan, these are great. Thanks so much for sharing your work. Is this from one of the lessons here, or did you have your own reference?

Nice! How long does a sketch like that take you?

I would say 1 hour and 15mins. I think I could have done it quicker if I went straight in with pen, but lots of angles and perspective on this one

These are so good! WHat a great idea to photo copy to practice the hatching first! Love your eye for composition,.

I’m really liking these posts, especially the subject matter that goes outside of the outlined border.

I love the crosshatching. We are always too critical of our own work!

Ok, I know this is not pen and ink, but since I previously, posted a WIP here in conversation, I figure I would also post completed color pencil portrait.

Comments are welcome. Like actual drawing better than photo. Photo looks grainy, but helped me go back and touch up a few spots.

No actual “black” used here, but used 25 different colors and on average 7 to 11 layers of color to get where it is. Used polychromos on pasrelmat paper. Like the combination, but lots of time to fill 8x10 size paper. Now I can get back on to some other stuff.

Hi Lenet - This turned out great! Yes, those colored pencils take a LOT of time and LAYERS.

Thanks Terri @robichon . What a real learning experience. Think I’m going to pick up my pens now and catch up on the distortion live lesson. Then who knows what is next. But starting to like the color pencils more and more. First time with Pastelmat and feel like I wear out the pencils before the paper tooth is gone.
