Stan the Chimp-Pencil

Wow, Looks great! I’m a third done with my Peony. Poor Stan is waiting for me to finish him.

Teresa, Stan-Fran looks great! The hands look nice. I’m still trying to figure what way to go but one day will finish it and post my version!!!

I’m calling this finished, while at the same time I see things I need to change or fix. I need to go back and make the stump a bit darker on the right side. I was very timid as I was adding the really dark colors, but I see now that I need to let go of that timidity and darken that side up with the dark umber and black so the stump looks more rounded. Otherwise, I’m pretty happy with it. It’s not my best work by far, but it is certainly the most difficult thing I’ve done in my entire time of drawing.

Taking the tape off this one was super rewarding!

Brenda, I love your Stan. I love the stump, his expression and everything.
After I finish my Peony, then catch up with the last live pastel lesson, i will give Stan a chance to be. The peony is coming along. I must say all the finished peonies are so beautiful. I can’t wait to finally finish it though.

Thank you so much! I look forward to seeing your finished Peony. Perhaps I’ll have to give it a try at some point. I’m going to do the live lesson of the frog next, I think, in addition to the current pastel live lesson.

Brenda,

This turned out wonderful. Curious Stan-Fran, you captured the shadows on its body well. I am finally working on mine which will be in it’s own unique style , will see how it goes.

Thanks, Teri! I cannot wait to see what you do with Fran. I love how everyone has their own style and individual strengths. Looking at all the Frans, none of them are close to being the same. Above all, have fun!!

Brenda,

Thanks for the encouragement, mine is certainly turning out with its own style and hairdo, but I am okay with that, I think!!

THAT’s The important thing. It took me until the highlight on the knee to really loosen up.

Brenda

I am far from there!!! But trudging along ever so slowly.

Slow and steady wins the race!

Brenda,

I suppose I could post some in progress posts. I have such a limited few colors so it is challenging, but the Faber-Castell studio-colored pencils, Fabrian I believe it is (too lazy to go look at the box!! lol!) are well pigmented and go down clean and clear so will see what happens. It may end up being mixed media!

Teri

that’s excellent! your stump really turned out good and it looks like you nailed the hardest part - the hands. Congrats!

Hey Brenda, this really turned out! I really appreciate seeing what others have done to give me ideas on what I might improve on - in this one it’s the shadows on Stan/Fran.

Here is where I am at. I am using a very limited set of watercolor pencils so decided to go for a type if monogram on between yellow and red using tints and shades of the colors.

I still have work to do on the hands and then the stump, but am getting there a little at a time.

Looks very good to me! I’ve never seen an orangutan with its hair done lol

Sonia,

LOL! i think Fran had just ended a swim to cool herself off and shook her head as the camera clicked, at least in my drawing!!

We all need a new do from time to time!
