How good is that?! You got that astronaut really floating on the moon! I love it!
I hate I missed it but am not skipping no soft pastel lesson ever! I will do this one then the previous train station one in charcoal.
Also add what @robichon said to my comment :winking_face_with_tongue:

I did my “Walking on the Moon” this morning.
I only had cream colored canson miteintes so that’s what I used. I enjoyed it!:grin:

Hi Sonia @Meme5

Looks great. I’m just starting this one now too, but I’m going to do it with watercolor pencils. I’ll post it when I’m done, but don’t hold your breath because I’m always slow.

Happy me - I finished it (and my version only took about 6 hours). I told you I don’t do anything fast. My version is 5x7 on multi-media board using watercolor pencils.

Hi everyone,

I just finished the “Walking on the Moon” project from Getting Sketchy, and it was such a fun one! Big thank you to @Buddy for our recent conversation about pastels, it reminded me how much I truly enjoy working with them (and how long it’s been since I pulled them out).

It was a beautiful day today, so I decided to take my supplies outside and work at the picnic table. I didn’t have dark blue paper on hand, but a light blue Canson Mi-Teintes worked well enough. I probably could’ve pushed the dark values a bit more, but as you know, Mi-Teintes only holds so much pastel before it says, “That’s enough!” :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Overall, I really enjoyed the process. It felt good to get dusty again. Looking forward to seeing how everyone else interprets this project!

This looks great! I really like it in watercolors too! I like the smaller size too!

Hi Jessica.

Isn’t it fun to play on a project with others. You did great!

Just to clarify, I used watercolor PENCILS for mine. The other interesting thing was that my media board was white, so it took 4 layers to get that dark background.

Great looking astronaut!! I can relate to the paper tooth, except I used the smoother side of the miteintes instead of the honeycomb side. Also mine was yellow beige. Could not make the pan pastels stick for more coverage.
So fun to see all our versions, loooooove it!

I love seeing everyone’s astronaut walking on the moon. I managed to finish mine Wednesday night, but only by staying up too late and making a total mess lol. It was a lot of fun to draw along with them on the live show, but I probably took an extra hour or 3.

It sure was fun to play on a project with everyone.

Achieving deep darks with watercolor pencils and or watercolors on white paper usually require a few layers. Thats the beauty with watercolors is teaches patience lol!

Have you ever done watercolors/or WC Pencils on toned paper? I typically only use arches wc paper, as far as I know it is only available in white or off-white. If you have experience with a toned wc paper, what brand do you use?

Thank you. Yours looks fantastic too! I usually use UART paper for my pastel work, so this was my first time trying Mi-Teintes with pastels. I’ve typically only used it for charcoal sketches. It was a fun experiment but going forward I’ll probably stick with UART for pastels, it just suits my style better.

Hi Jessica -

Matt has done one class on black watercolor paper, but the paint was gouache (opaque watercolor).

I don’t believe there is such a thing as toned watercolor paper because the concept with watercolor paint is that the white of the paper takes the place of white paint, and tints are obtained by using the translucent watercolor paints with more water to let more of the white paper show.

Looks great, I like the values of sun reflection on the legs, don’t think Matt had time to do that. Thanks for posting. Ron
