So adorable and very well done Elina! Can’t wait to see the finished piece
Sonia
Oh, wiow…thank you so mich for sharing this🙏
I thank you all for this heart touching support and kind words🙏.
In the end I had to handle my inner stress because of the red hat and the combined timing😇
Hi Elina.
Love this. Great solution for the whiskers. Have a very merry Christmas.
Terri
Wonderful work, @Elena - your cat seems to enjoy it’s cozy place. I like, how you handled the white rim of the hat (das Plüsch sieht super aus!!!).
@siffermus Yeah, so there is no one fits all solution. For the wiskers, I prefer your first sample though. Thank you!
Hello all,
I tried another watercolor lesson, this time a little longer - Old barn.
I must say it was challenging for me.
Already during the first lesson, I needed to use my eraser more often than I would like to
. My brain was playing tricks on me while I was trying to see which line was straight and which just looked like one.
After a little fight, the paint came to play the game.
After the first 2 hours, I felt it was good for the bin, but I told myself to push it thru, and if so, I could still hide it somewhere at the end, if I wouldn’t like it.
The whole lesson had 7 videos, and I started to feel OK with the painting after the 4th
. That being said, I am happy with the piece, and in case you are going thru this painting as well, and you have a hard time, well, just so you know, you are not alone. ![]()
Here is the painting of the Old barn:

Oh my Lucy.
Your final painting turned out nicely. Be proud of what you have accomplished. And just so you know, all of us experienced or not often want to throw a project away at some point. Watercolors are one media that almost always go thru an ugly phase. So glad you decided to stick with it.
Terri
Very well done painting! I would have never thought you considered throwing it in the trash, and am so glad you didn’t and ended up with a beautiful piece. You should be proud and hope you frame it and display It.
Sonia
Beautiful drawing Elina. Very realistic and detailed as well! I am a cat lover and I certainly love this Santa Kitty. ![]()
Sonia
i haven’t been on the forum as much as I used to. I have enjoyed seeing all the beautiful art everyone has posted.
So here are some pieces I’ve worked on and finished in the past weeks maybe a couple of months… the first two are soft pastels, baseball themed one is a commission 16x20 ish on I believe pastelmat paper… photo reference from adobe stock; long eared owl is 11x14 in on canson velvet reference by karen jackson from facebook “Free Reference Photos To Use For Artists” group. The last two are graphite on bristol smooth paper. I had previously drawn Marilyn on charcoal paper with graphite but accidentally tore up the paper so I drew her again. The other one was a commission for one of my husband’s coworkers.
Hi Sonia @Meme5
I so admire you and have found great joy following your artistic journey this last year. You put in the effort and it shows in all your wonderful creations. I’m looking forward to our next year together at the Virtual Instructor.
Terri
@Meme5 these artworks are awsome, I love espacilly the owl! I am looking forward to be able to draw birds like this😍

I have come a long way since first joining the TVI about 2 and a half years ago or so! Not only are Matt and Ashley The Best instructors, but also encouraging and fun.
The forum has also been encouraging, helpful, supportive, fun, and all the things!!
Although there’s always room for improvement, I can say that I have gained confidence in my process thanks to Matt, Ashley and people like you and all in here.
So next year is going to be great starting tomorrow ![]()

Sonia
Thank you for such kind words. Elina I think you can draw any bird you want at any point!
Sonia
Happy New Year everybody! I have been working a lot with watercolour during the christmas days. I have just done a few excercises with texture.
These are all amazing Sonia!
Such a high details! I think all these hours that you were putting into drawing during these 2 years or so (here and there, sometimes even just during breaks in school) are paying off. You should be really proud of yourself ![]()
