Whenever I do an oil pastel, I always matt them when putting them in a frame so there is space between the art and the glass. That’s because oil pastels are the only media that never “dry” and a space between the artwork and glass will provide protection. Just a thought.
Thanks Terr @robichon
These are canvas panels so I didn’t think to matte them
I might try mounts the next time I use a canvas board I’ll just have to mask it off to fit etc
I use paper made for oil painting. It usually has a smoother surface than a canvas board which I prefer because it is easier to get the details, and you can cut it to size. Then it is easy to matt too.
Hiya Terri @robichon
When I’m doing the oil pastel course I was doing my subjects on oil pastel paper but what I need to do is use masking tape to border them and make them look more professional
I’m a lazy besom will try to do better
I tape the edges of everything I do. And I personally never work on canvas because I don’t like how textured it is.
All quality artwork requires that you give it the time it deserves. Taking your time is the secret to improving your art. That and practice- in other words painting or drawing on a regular basis.
Thanks Terri @robichon for your reply
I do need the slow down too
I’m planning to continue with the pastel course this weekend and I’ll tape my paper down and try slowing down
Talk soon enjoy your weekend
I have been doing some hair studies. One in graphite and one in colour pencil. The dog is deliberately kept loose and sketchy, as I am finding it very difficult to do long hair in colour pencil - especially when it flies of in all sorts of directions.
These “hairy drawings” both show good control over the media, but I gotta say the dog is by far my favorite. I’m a sucker for animals and I love everything about this one.
It’s always fun to see what you post here. Please continue to share what you are working on.
Just a little 5x7 acrylic painting of peppers on 300 # Arches hot press watercolor paper from last year’s garden - but it still took me 2 days to paint this one.
Long time ago I did some pen&ink drawings and I decided to continue with it. I followed “Subjects in pen&ink course” and just finished sushi and avocado.
The drawings in the course are made with dip pen and ink, but I drew it with a fine liner as this is what I have around me now.
After that I decided to look for some color so I can be inspired to go back to ink. I did a little sketch in my sketchbook (regular paper, 140g, could take some water but not much). I didn’t have high expectations as I knew I am not using watercolor paper, but it turned out OK for me. Main point was to play with colors :).
The painting is inspired by the youtube channel “Nianiani”.
More hair studies - long, flat hair. I am starting to get the hang of it. Today I discovered the wonder of the blender pen! I have seen Matt use them - but I have never really taken to them. But what a difference they make! I am going to be using them a lot more going forward.
Great Terri!
I love the cloud formation and the contrast from the sea to the sky and the one piece of wood seems to be pointing to the sky perfectly!
Love it!
After 14 months give or take a couple I am calling this done. This is black Mi-Teintess A-1 board. I used a combination of prism color premiere and scholar pencils. I am opened to any and all comments, feel free to critique. This will help me when I do my next color pencil project in 2028.
