Thank you, Sonia,

I started with acrylics because I was afraid of oils. When I discovered water-mixable oils I really started enjoying them. Still learning of course.

Once again, nicely done Sonia. I really like how you handled the background. I’m also amazed how well you did with the details, especially the eyes, when I see how blurry the reference photo is.

There is only one thing I think could be modified a little. It looks like the light source is primarily from above and a little to the right side of the drawing. That means there should be a shadow (or darker value) under the chin in front and on the left side of the jaw/head.

The darkening under the front will better define the head from the body of the animal, because they blend into each other now. And on the left side of the face where it joins the body there is a “glow” that shouldn’t be there since that’s what would be in shadow. Does this make sense? Hope this is helpful.

Wow, Teri, just Wow!!! I love this.

Brenda,

Thank you. I am enjoying it especially it is from the Blue Ridge Parkway/Appalachian Mountains here where I live. Asheville NC is considered the Gateway to the Appalachian Mountains.

I would really enjoy living in a small farm like this in the mountains.

So, we dream on. I’ll keep posting as I make progress.

Thanks again Brenda,

Teri

Hello @robichon,

I fixed the items you mentioned earlier. It makes a big difference. Thank you again friend!
Also posting the one that Matt critiqued in the members minute about balancing the composition which I added a bowl., and adding some contrast on the right sided belly/floor. I’ll do the signature position/color on another time
What do you think?

Hi Sonia.

You deserve another WOW because these changes are subtle but so effective. That dog food bowl is the perfect addition.

Now you need to send the changed dog drawing back to Matt and point out the adjustments you made because of his critique.

He will probably start the next members minute by showing everyone the changes and how much it improved an already good drawing.

You continue to impress me. When does your summer break start? Say hi to your daughter for me.

Hello Sonia with no r’s,

You should resubmit this for another look by Matt’s eyes. He may just show the changes so we can all learn from the job you did here.

Both look lovely or maybe adorable is a better description,

Lovely cow as always! what size is it? This summer I will paint or draw a cow… time flies and projects just keep getting farther and farther behind!

Sonia

Oh my friend, how you make me smile.

Hi Sonia,

It is 8x10! I am trying to work bigger but seem to be stuck on 8x10

Hi June.

I’m stuck on 8 x 10 also, mainly because it makes it easier to buy precut matts and frames.

Terri Robichon

@junenez @robichon

My problem is that I don’t pay attention to the size as I tape it and end up with random sizes like 15x17 or 12x12 instead of 10x10…kind of like the table cloths, I went and got another one but now I had to fold one end under it. The good thing is that I use it only to keep paint matter off the table.
On a different note, i finally found a print place for quality art printing reproductions. I want a couple of my pieces enlarged. Hopefully it’s not too expensive.

Hi Sonia -

When I started framing 37 drawings / paintings for the local fair every year, I learned really quickly that size matters. Custom cut matts and frames are very expensive.

Ink pigment liners by Staedtler, charcoal pencil background. I’m enjoying how much layering and detail you can create with pen. It is a huge, satisfying challenge.

I am still very new to drawing (it’s been a week since I started), but I just finished the frog from the getting sketchy tutorials and am so excited about the progress I made in such a short time.

Terri, this is beautiful. For a second, I thought that it was a photograph. Mind blown!!!

Hello Roxane,

You should be very happy; you did a wonderful job with this little guy.

I saw that you are new to drawing. If you are a member Matt has many courses on drawing with graphite. I did first three of them. There is repetition which was helpful then the Portrait drawing the right way and will soon work on realistic pencil drawing.

Welcome to the forum, and if you are a member the Virtual Instructor. There is so much to explore. If you are a member, I recommend the Critiques and the live lessons. At the live lessons, Wednesdays and 8pm, you can ask both Matt and Ashley questions real time, like when Getting Sketchy is live.

Hope to see you there!

Welcome again and I look forward to seeing more of your artwork.
