What a wonderful experience you captured! I am vicariously living through this thread. It makes such a difference to see the pictures from real people ( I hope you all are real ) who are capturing amazing moments from their very own genuine experiences
So refreshing!
Terri w 2r @robichon,
Leave it up to you to come up with a wholesome idea
Another great idea for conversations Terri, I’ve just been reading the thread. I love all the photos, especially your birds Terri and Sonia, like Terri, I particularly like the purple bench one. I’m round the other side of the world and in the southern hemisphere in Tasmania, Australia’s southernmost island state. We’re just coming into autumn. We live in Hobart, the capital of Tasmania, but atm we are camping on the east coast near Bicheno in our caravan, on river that runs into the Tasman Sea (the sea between Tassie and New Zealand). I’ve included some photos, it’s a pretty special place, and also one of my husband relaxing outside our caravan after we arrived here on Monday
Peachtree City GA… the chipmunks aren’t out and about yet so no pictures that are current. I have the sunflower seeds ready for them. The weather is fine. Looking forward to Getting Sketchy. Does anyone have any experience with a website called Evolve Art? That hasn’t been as much fun as the Live lessons or courses here at the Virtual Instructor. Matt and Ashley sure make it more fun.
Nice to have you chime in here. No, I have not heard about Evolve Art. Once I discovered The Virtual Instructor I pretty much stay here because they provide everything I need and want - and then even more.
I feed chipmunks too and already have seen a few here in Minnesota. I feed everything that comes along - resulting in us paying more for bird food than people food.
The food we put out includes kernel corn, corn on the cob, black sunflower seeds, wild bird seed mix, peanuts and suet.
The birds we are getting right now include: Red-wing blackbirds, Starlings, Grackles, Chickadee, Nuthatch, Blue Jays, Cardinals, Pheasant, Sparrows, Finch, Dark-eyed Junco, Northern Flicker, Mourning Doves and many varieties of woodpeckers (incl. Downy. Hairy, Red-bellied and my favorite Pileated). Besides birds we end up feeding several kinds of squirrels, deer and racoon.
I hope it won’t be long before we see: Baltimore and Orchard Orioles, Hummingbirds, and several kinds of Warblers that are typically just passing thru on their migration.
Please keep sharing as you take photos that represent your area of the country and activities that interest you.
I’m not sure if I mentioned James, but lived just outside of Covina for my first 11 years of life. Back then it was called Rowland Heights, right of Fullerton Rd about 15 minutes from Disneyland.
Never had snow when I lived there. Just a few earthquakes, summer fires. and 86 degree Christmas.
Hello Teri, I do remember that you mentioned that you lived here in Rowland Heights. It was 90 degrees here yesterday, most of the snow has melted. Do you remember the name of that mountain? Mount Baldy is correct.
I envy you, I have been trying to escape from California for years now.
James from Covina
Hello, I am a real beginner so not used to drawing although do lots of photography. I am a member now. It is a nice idea to share where in the world we are, so, I live in the Georgian City of Bath in England. We are home to the Bath Rugby Team, which is always fun to attend, the Rugby ground is just a few minutes walk away. One of maybe the most famous people who lived here was Jane Austin and each year a festival takes place commemorating the life of Jane. People certainly from as far away as America come to stay in the city, lots dress up in period costume so during the week you will literally see hundreds of people in period costume walking around the city, it is a really lovely time. I am not used to uploading to this site at the moment but when I have “had a go” I will send you some images of the city. I am retired from my working life but still keep busy with lots of things I enjoy doing. Photography has been something I have done for many years, I belong to the local walking group and also the local photography group, and I volunteer too at one of the Bath Art Galleries, this is a kind of meet and greet customers but it does mean that you get to see lots of lovely art, and to learn a lot about each exhibition. I have two grown up children and four grandchildren, they two are grown up now. On a sad note my lovely husband died three years ago, but I have really lovely family and friends, and love to try new adventures, so learning to draw and paint is my new adventure, and I am so pleased that I found this amazing community on the Virtual Instructor. Today I am home and working my way through the drawing lessons which Matt is doing. I can hear the shouts at the Rugby ground and I think we are winning!! Thank you for reading kindest wishes to all of you, Patricia
I’m so glad you posted here. It is fun to read about you and where you live. I am into amateur photography too and was the president of the local photography club for a couple years. But I live in a small community and the only criteria for being president of the club was to say, okay I’ll do it. As you become more proficient at drawing/painting I’m sure your photography will be a great source for reference photos for your original artwork. That has been the case for me.
I look forward to your posts of either your photography and/or artwork.
With Spring comes a lot of changes to the place where I live (Minnesota in the United States). We have 4 very distinct seasons here, which is part of what I love about this place. The other thing I really like is that Minnesota is known as the “Land of 10,000 Lakes” and I’m fortunate enough to live on one of them.
When I woke up this morning (Saturday, March 29th) the “Ice was Out”. In other words, the ice was now gone from the lake I live on for the first time this year. This is the earliest I recall in the 35 years we have lived here.
Because of the ice being gone, our morning started with a drive to Mels Sport Shop to pick up a dozen NightCrawlers (big fat worms). We already got our fishing licenses a few weeks ago and as soon as it is a little warmer, we’ll be catching Sunfish. I love it when we can fish, clean and eat in the same day. But right now, it is 34 degrees Fahrenheit and there’s a Winter Weather Advisory from 10pm tonight to 4pm tomorrow. At the store I was surprised to only see two packages of nightcrawlers available in the refrigerated case. The clerk said there were a lot of people in yesterday buying them. Great minds think alike. Now worms can be found in my own refrigerator for several more weeks.
Here are a couple of photos of the worms, and a photo of some Mallards (2 male, 1 female) that I captured on the way home. Have a great day everyone!!!
Hello all - VA in the USA here, and just found this thread - I want to be better at keeping up with the community, it nice to hear from everyone and see what folks are drawing The weather is finally warming up for spring mostly. That always makes me want to draw birds. I love listening to them during the day - Carolina wren, cardinals, robins, and the various woodpeckers are my favs to listen to.
Terri w/2Rs - I REALLY want to draw the lunar eclipse you posted! I love the red against the black sky!
