Bought Staedtler Mars Lumograph and I am thinking about them as really black ones:thinking:

Do anybody know if I am in the correct path?

Honestly I die not try them yet, because not to loose the possibility to bring them back…I have so many graphite pencils :woman_shrugging:

Yes, they are the very dark ones. I use them all the time and am on my second bin of them.

Hi Elina. just to be clear - which one did you get. The MArs Lumograph (blue pencils) are regular graphite pencils, and the Mars Lumograph Black (black pencils) are carbon based pencils - so coal with a binder in them. And they are the blackest on the market - I personally fell head over heals in love in seconds with them. They perform best on smooth paper, like a bristol smooth. I did this cat with the Black pencils. Hope that helps.

I forgot to say that Derwent recently came out with a 10, 11, 12 and 13 B pencils for their graphic set of pencils. And that 13 B is seriously black too. Obviously not as much as the Mars Lumoghraph black because it is carbon and not graphite. Otherwise I can recommend Caran D’ache Grafwood 9B. Albrecht Dürer watercolour pencils from Faber Castell and Schminke watercolours on Winsor and Newton hotpressed watercolour paper. I should probabaly do some of the classes on using these pencils! This was troublesome -and I learned a ton from the process.

@siffermus oh, thank you:smiling_face_with_three_hearts:…the light blue grey looks much better than yellow! Cool!

@siffermus I love parrots:beating_heart:and you inspired me to draw one again:smiling_face: although to recognize if my skills changed during the last year.

And all this watercolor stuff is so different than pencil drawing…it is always like starting a bit new.

I like your parrot:beating_heart:

This is an 8x10 mixed media drawing based on my own reference photo of a Cliff Dwelling at Mesa Verde National Park.

It was started with an ink - line and wash underpainting. Then I added Albrecht Durer watercolor pencils from Faber Castell for the finishing colors and detail. I used Strathmore heavyweight mixed media paper.

This one took almost a week to complete, and I think I could keep goofing with it for a very long time - so I’m just going to call it DONE.

This is a small 4x6 portrait I did a couple weeks ago. Any tips for improvement (esp. the hair)?
