This too shows so much emotional feelings, and I love the way they are connected and not much space between… good aspect too!

@Elina Thanks Elina. I did the hair last and was going too fast but I’ll try to pay attention to the values next time I draw hair. I always have trouble drawing hair because I get too lost in the details and it turns into a bunch of lines.
This is a charcoal portrait I did also a couple weeks ago. How do I get hair that has texture (without just a bunch of random lines) and also makes sense as a form?
Do you think I could shade the values smoothly like I would for skin and then go over it with a darker pencil and an eraser to get texture?
I think you have quite a bit of texture in this drawing already and I love your shadows and values too!
Good job for sure!

Did this in the last days…watercolor in A5.
Loose paintingand and using tint and jelly pencil…fast…was fun
Elina I really like your watercolor pictures here …what does the A5 refer to?
And not up on some terms what is a jelly pencil?
Still love the coloring!

Wow! I LOVE the one on the left. Stunning, really.
Hi Forum friends - Just finished this week. An 8x8 colored pencil drawing on PastelMat. Love that paper.
Terri
That’s insanely good! How long did it take you.
Hi Lucas @MTBartist
Took about 20 hours (and I worked on it for 6 days) to complete the 8x8 colored pencil pumpkins. Lots of layers and blending and the entire paper was covered.
Thanks for the kind words. Much appreciated.
Terri
Wow that’s a long time! I think the longest I’ve spent on a piece was about 13 hours and it took forever because I can only work on it after school. I don’t usually spend that long unless I’m rather attached to the project though. Your skills are pretty amazing. I can definitely see that you’ve put a lot of time into practice.
Hi Lucas @MTBartist
I’ve actually put in far more time than that on many pieces of artwork. For instance, I did the ink drawing of a church that was a Live Lesson in January 2026, and I spent 80 hours on that one. It was with ballpoint pen and was 11x17. But I’m retired and that makes a huge difference.

Hi Therese.
An A5 piece of paper measures 148 × 210 mm or 5.8 × 8.3 inches. Cutting it in half will create two A6 sheets of paper. A5 is part of the A series.
You can always check this sight for sizes. I get totally confused about inches - I have a converter on my phone, so I can see what it is in cm. Or - I check on this website.

I did some experimenting on this one. I have a watercolour underpainting and then colour pencil ontop. It is Arches HotPressed Watercolour paper.
This is a drawing from the colored pencil course that I just finished. It’s not much compared to what @robichon and @siffermus are doing but it is my first one.
Also I hit enter too fast so I couldn’t put the text in the same post with the image.
wow! This is so good I absolutely love it. Great work amazing details ![]()

Hi Lucas @MTBartist
This portrait is much improved over the previous portrait that you posted. Love the nice range of values. If you’re a paid member of The Virtual Instructor I suggest you submit this for the Members Minute and in the submission ask Matt these questions.
