That’s really good Terri!!! Do you have unlimited patience?
I didn’t go for the trumpet because I was in the middle of an older live lesson of Air Jordans. It was pen and ink already but I did it with ballpoint so it’s very different. I just finished it yesterday.
Your shoes look great. The thing that keeps me drawing is that I have a personal goal to try to get all 42 possible fine arts entries created for the local county fair in August every year. Right now I have 14 more things to draw/paint in 10 weeks. Not sure if I’ll succeed but I’ll keep trying.
Thanks @Lucy I appreciate your kind words. I love the Zebra pens and think any kind of ink (drawn with Zebra or painted with a brush) is my current favorite media.
I have some experience with Water-mixable oil paint, and I have found the glazes a little interesting as well. The main thing is that unlike acrylics, the oils take a week or longer to dry properly on the surface. The first bits of paint dry slower for whatever reason. I think you could have our base layers and details, but wait a week for everything to dry and the glazes should work. I’m sure about how that specific surface effects the painting, but work either way.
Something fun to try out the Mars Lumograph pencils and Lumograph black. I believe they are going to be my go to pencils.
Please feel free to share any thoughts, suggestions, or critiques.
The paper is 9x12 Bristol vellum, 103lb. The pencils, 10H, 5H, F, 4B, 8B, 12B. The black I used the HB, 6B, and 8B. The drawing is 6”x6”
Thank you,
Jim
Omg this is magnificent @1kidneyJD
You’ve really captured an era
Your figure work is sublime and I just love the magic of the background too
This is first class
Glad you’re enjoying your new pencils
As I was searching for another project I came across this unfinished piece. This was a live class over a year ago. It’s been so long don’t remember the name the community gave. I guess I will go ahead and finish it, or attempt to. If I am away from graphite or charcoal too long I get the shakes.
Jim
42 entries is a lot of things to do in one year Terri, especially if they’re all this good! I’m impressed with your dedication to keep doing that every year.
My local fair doesn’t have nearly as many fine art spots as yours. They focus on the animals and other stuff. How many different mediums do you work in to get all the entries?
I got the blue color because I couldn’t find the pens Matt uses. The Zebra pens come only in black however, and I use BIC pens mainly because they come in all different colors.
I just got a variety pack for some experimentation and it came with three reds, two blues, three greens, a purple and a black. Blue is my favorite color but I also like the purple and one of the greens a lot.
This looks awesome! I really like the vintage movie look.
The man’s shirt is very well done with all the folds. I think if you gave the pants and the woman’s skirt a little more variety in value they would look more three dimensional and less flat. I always do this with things that I think are black but then I look closer and there are more lighter values that expected.
Hope this helps (p.s. I love how transparent the glass is too, you did a wonderful job on that)
I would go for a blue as well, as it is my favorite color too, and then I would go for a purple, and then a green and then probably the rest just to see it all
Anyway, I hope to see another drawing with one of these colors from you one day :).
Looking forward to seeing your progress on the peacock. Keep posting your work on it here so we don’t miss it. The other topic for that live lesson would require a lot of searching to find.
Then for each of those mediums there are 5 possible entries based on subject: Flowers, Landscape, People, Animals, Other. So 8 mediums X 5 subjects each = 40 entries.
Plus you can do one “Mixed Media” and another for “Any Other” which is where I do scratchboard.
Lucas @MTBartist Thank you for your suggestions and comments. I have this habit of over working my drawings, using the blender too much. This time it was used very little. I still have not connected the dots as to what paper is best to use for graphite or charcoal.
Again I appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts and helping me along this journey.
Terri @robichon will keep posting my progress on the Peacock. This wonderful world of color.
