After reading your comment to Jim, I just wanted to clarify for you that things sent to Matt for the Members Minute cannot be from any lesson. Must only be from original artwork that you have created and that is photographed well.
That being said, it’s a great idea for all members to send things to Matt for the weekly critique that meet this criteria.

Terri @robichon I am addressing you but asking the community for advice. The photo is my next project and I want to matt and frame.
I have never done this before. The paper is 9x12 inches. The smaller picture is 3x6 and the larger one is 6x8 inches. What would be the appropriate frame and matting size?

Truth be told, this is better, but definitely not great. But I’m fussy. If it was mine and this is the best photo you could get, I would fix it in photoshop (actually I use photoshop elements). So I did that for you, making the image 8x10 (that’s what size mine was. Not sure what size yours is.)
To edit it I started by making it a perfect rectangle. Then I darkened the upper left side and slightly altered the colors. My guess is that this is closer to what your original actually looks like.

One more response from me regarding the photos that you want to frame. I will tell you that if you had a digital file or could get a good scan of the smaller photo, I would personally print it at 8" wide so it would match the width of the larger photo.
But, based on what you gave me in your question, I have attached a diagram with measurements on how I would do it. This diagram was created in actual size in Photoshop Elements so the spacing is exactly true to the dimensions that I’m recommending. Hope this is helpful.

Terri @robichon thank you for your suggestion on the portrait. I am still debating whether to use 11x14 inch paper. As I am going to give it to the pastor and his wife but I don’t want a large frame. Decisions decisions.
Now about that pesky peacock, thank you for your critique. I was amazed that you put time into wanting to make my drawing look better knowing how much time you put into your art You are a most generous artist and it is a privilege to learn from you. I don’t have photoshop or any other app like that so whats on paper is it.

You’re totally welcome and feel free to ask for help. Just one question - did the edited image of the peacock posted look like the your actual drawing because that’s what I was hoping to accomplish.
I’m also a little confused about the photos. I thought you wanted to frame both of the actual photos together in one frame and wanted help based on the size of those photos
Now I’m thinking you just plan to use those photos as references for a drawing you want to create. Is that the case, and if so are you just going to use one of the photos?
If you’re doing a drawing of just one and were asking about frame and matt sizes - and you want a standard size frame that is smaller than 11 X 14, you might want to consider a 5x7 drawing when matted would go in an 8x10 frame.

Terri @robichon sorry for the confusion, that could be that I am not sure how I want the layout This is a before and after, I will be using charcoal, surprise, It will be for their 53rd anniversary. The only thing I am sure of is that it will be two reference photos one drawing.

Hi Terri @robichon forgot to answer your question about the peacock. Your enhanced version is closer. I guess my almost 10 year old phone doesn’t take good color photos.
I’m putting that drawing away and moving on, back to familiar territory.

This is a sweet boy named Ranger who hangs out with his mom at the Farmer’s Market. Oil pastel on gouache with a tiny bit of colored pencil.
The scarf on the cow is a really nice touch!

Thank you. He is actually a sweet boy. I can see how he might look rowdy in this portrait now that you mention it! He has a disability that makes movement difficult for him, and I think the effort it takes him to move affects his facial expressions. He was actually very cuddly when I took the reference photo for this.
