You did good with your double portrait. What I’d suggest (assuming that you are a member of The Virtual Instructor) is that you watch a couple of the Members Minutes (under the “Community “ tab) just to get a feel of Matt’s weekly critique. Then take a good photo of just your artwork without the reference photo. I suggest you watch episodes 500 and 502 of the members minute. They are only about 20 minutes long.
Then take another big breath and submit to see if Matt will critique it. You have time before the birthday. Matt does not critique everything, and sometimes you have to wait and watch for several weeks. But he does critique for all skill levels and I think he may do this one.
Nicely done @PatriciaDearnaley . It’s a real likeness to the photo. Bet your friends loved it such a lovely present. Most importantly did you enjoy drawing it?
Thank you @Dannomiss89 - I did enjoy it, but I wasn’t expecting it to take such a long time to get the shading right. My main interest is in painting, but I’ve been taking Matt’s drawing courses to get the basics right first.
This is a last min pen sketch tonight for a friend who lost their dog. Wanted to do something special. It’s not perfect. Some proportions are out. Contrast is lacking in some places, but hopefully once scanned in at hi-res and framed those imperfections won’t matter as will just be a beautiful memory of a much loved dog.
WOW! Shut the front door!! I absolutely love how it comes together with the scanning application you’ve done. Between you and Maki and Terri, I have no hope catching up with ink and/or wash and now you’’ve added scanning ( my terminology in art is limited, is it graphic design?).
Sonia @Meme5 you absolutely have hope 100%. You just have to be consistent and keep drawing. I start pen drawing 2.5 years ago and drawn every day I think… So it really is about consistency. Promise you and don’t compare journeys as we are all on different journeys at different times. You are doing great!!
Also yes I’ve been a graphic designer for the last 18 years so that helps a little … He he
Thank you Terri, but there are still 3~4 pen works to be completed for the LA show. After that, I will start my study of watercolour pencils. I already have something I definitely would love to draw. something that cannot be drawn without colours.
