Hello Maki,

This is really cool, your artwork at a glance! I look forward to seeing Terri’s Grove soon.

Hi Teri @TLP

Maki’s drawing called Terri’s Groove has been done for a while. Matt even did a members minute on it - episode 501, in November 2024.

Thanks Terri (with 2r’s) I’ll look it up. Strange if I missed it as I watch all of them. Maybe I just missed the title.

Off to take a look now.

This is an experiment with media. I used a Cross pen, (Cross makes lot of pens but this one is a nib pen with an ink cartridge inside it), then I wetted the ink with a brush and let it smear and run. Then I put oil pastel on top. What do you think?

The guy painting in the mid-ground is Monet. He showed up for the pond.

Hi @Bearinthegarden

I love the subtle addition of Monet. Made me smile.

Hi to all my forum friends.

It’s been a busy week for me with my artwork. I’m thrilled to have finished 2 more items. They are both 5 x 7.

One is a vertical colored pencil drawing of a pink rose bud. The other is a horizontal pastel drawing of a butterfly. The interesting thing about this one is that I used a different paper. Usually, I would have used PastelMat. But this one is on Clairefontaine - Pastelgrain paper (light grey). Pan pastels used for the background. The rest is completed with Caran d’Ache and Stabilo - Carb Othello pastel pencils.

For people who are newer to the forum, I compete in the creative arts exhibit at my local county fair every year in three categories: fine art, photography and scrapbooking.

Based on all 3 categories I could possibly have 80 total entries. For those who have asked how I’m doing so far this year (fair is in early August) I have 60 entries complete and 20 more to do. Things not done are 2 for photography and 18 for fine arts. Not sure if I’ll succeed because I won’t submit if I don’t think the quality is there, but I’m giving it my best.

Here are the ones just completed.

Terri (with 2r’s,

These are beautiful as is all your photography and artwork.

It inspires me to have hope and keep creating artwork that I may also reach a level I feel better about what I do.

I hope all goes well with you this busy week.

I finished this excercise - not my best work. Rock are truely my nemesis! I didn’t have the super grainy paper that Matt uses, so I just went with the most grainy drawing paper I have. I had a hard time telling the water from the rocks on the right hand side of the paper.

Hi Sys @siffermus

Thanks so much for sharing your work. You are off to a great start. Let me share a thought that might help . . . the good thing about black and white drawings is that you can easily see the various VALUES. If you want to see the rocks more clearly on the right side of the drawing you can do that by creating more contrast. I suggest that you DARKEN the shadows on those rocks and you will clearly see the difference between the rocks and the water. Hope this is helpful.

Also, I suggest you watch the Members Minute every week if possible, and maybe some of the past ones also. They are less than a half hour long and worth every minute. Matt spends a lot of time during every critique to discuss the importance of value and how to adjust it.

This piece is called, “I Got in My Car”. I’ve been having car problems, and I’m not a mechanic, so this represents me going inside and doing some investigation. It’s Derwent, Carbothello and Pitt pastel pencils on charcoal colored Pastelmat. What do you all think?

Hi @Bearinthegarden

Very creative. I like it and think you should send it to Matt to critique for the Members Minute.

My first pastel pencils Sketch😅 it came out a totally different parrot than on the reference is shown and I am fine with it. I stopped even there are so many stuff to make it better, because I recognised my nervsystem was getting tired.
