This is a 5x7 watercolor painting on Arches 300# hot press watercolor paper.
Many of you know that the subject matter and media I use for my artwork is based on items I’m trying to finish for my local county fair, which takes place the first week of August. My family has been my priority lately, so it’s unlikely I’ll meet my goal this year, but I continue to push ahead as time allows. For those interested, here is how I’m doing . . .
There are a total of 42 Fine Art entries possible. Media includes
Oil or Acrylic painting
Watercolor painting
Watercolor Pencils
Ink drawing or painting
Graphite or Charcoal drawing
Chalk Pastel

Colored Pencil
Mixed Media - and - Any other media
For items 1 thru 8 there are 5 possible subjects including . . .
a) Flowers
b) Landscape
c) People
d) Animals
e) Other
Thats a lot of artwork to complete in a year, but I love having a goal and the challenge to work in so many categories. Right now, I have 29 items completed and 13 to do in the next 4 weeks.
I encourage all of you to take on this type of a challenge if you have the chance. Even if you are not as crazy as me, it’s amazing the satisfaction of what you can do, and your artistic skills will soar to new levels.
I am traveling so my art supplies are very limited to what fits in my backpack.
Here’s my pineapple from getting sketchy. I had none of the materials suggested by Ashley
so I used what I have. I love art. It is very therapeutic to my mind and soul, always makes me happy regardless where I am or the outcome.
Terri, this is absolutely inspiring! Your dedication and passion for your art and the fair entries are incredible. I’m amazed at how much you’ve accomplished already, and your watercolor piece is just stunning, the realism and attention to detail are beautiful. Even if life shifts your goals a bit, the progress you’ve made and the growth in your skills are something to be proud of. Thank you for sharing your journey and encouraging the rest of us to stretch ourselves too. Can’t wait to see more of your work as you continue preparing for the fair!
Hi Sonia, I love the colors and vibrancy in your pineapple, it’s so fun and lively! It’s inspiring how you made it work with what you had on hand. That’s the beauty of art, isn’t it? Creating with what’s available and letting it bring joy wherever we are. Safe travels, and I hope you keep sharing your art adventures!
Thanks so much for your kind words of support. I must add how wonderful it is that you are frequently here to cheer other artists on too. It’s people like you that make the forum such a great place to hang out.
Thank you for your supportive comments. I went to Michael’s yesterday (and the day before) and found a limited amount of colors of copic ciao markers for $2 each!!! So I now own several of the same colors of copic markers and a used, opened, small set of posca markers missing two pieces, for cheap! All this to say I have increased my random colors of travel art supplies…
Thank you friend of mine, I have been looking at that pineapple for a while and decided to give it a try “borrowing” Natalie’s generic brand water based markers she carries with her, without her knowing, or else haha
and that’s how my pineapple came to be
Worked this little bird with water soluble graphite pencils.Watercolors in any form are very challenging to me, however I discovered that water soluble graphite can be erased to a degree. So this is a small accomplishment for me because it is not a blob of runny marks!
Thank you Terri w2r for our private messaging!
This is from a chocolate and painting group
I am blown away! Your art work is stunning. The lighthouse looks so realistic, I had to look twice to tell it apart from a foto. Yet, I would consider your art to always be more vibrant and precisely carried out than any artistic fotographer can catch with his lenses.
42 for highly skilled pieces of art might leave you with only time to sleep & eat - the rest you are taking care of your family and your art.
Terri, if you like to share your whole exhibition with us, I will be flattered and visiting it with all eyes in over and over again.
Thank you to remind us how gracious art making can be to fill in your life.
I got a new set of pencils! Chromaflow 150 pencils. And some new paper! This picture is the rfirst I have doen with my new pencils. I am really not that used to wax based pencils.
